Hi there!

I'm planning to build a new PC.
My current PC despite working good it's old generation(bought it...well 6-7 years ago. I don't remember). I'll keep at anyway but

Intel core 2 duo e8400
geforce 9800 gt
4 GB DDR3(or 2. I don't remember actually)

I am not a gamer myself(oddly enough I play only Sims 3 & open too many tabs in browser). Even my monitor has resolution 1920x1080 27".
But I'd like to build a powerful machine. My budget...
Well I'm planning to buy components every month for the next year.
The last items I'd like to buy will be - motherboard, processor and videocard.

My buy steps will look like this
1) computer case (aerocool mechatron)
2) power supplier (something like fractal Design Newton R3 1000W)
3) BD-RE x2 (different manufacturers)
4) HDD x2 (or some 4 TB) + some fans for computer case
5) SSD (128 GB I think will be enough for windows 7)
6) DDR4 16GB(or 2x8GB). I'd like to go with DDR4 now.
7) motherboard - I don't event know which to choose but definitely with socket 2011
8) cooler for processor(maybe water cooler. I don't know now)
9) processor i7 - 5xxx(because of DDR4) - maybe something newer
10) GTX 970 (maybe x2, or maybe some other...I prefer Nvidia - all my videocard was nvidia's - 5200, 6600 GT, 9800 GT). Maybe there will be some newer. But GTX 970 gives me 9800 GT vibes.

So what do you think about my goal? My budget is not very over-buffed(I am not planning to processors like i7-4---X) however I'm not planning to upgrade for next 6 years.

P.S. sorry for my English

Also, not too much of a speed difference between DDR3 and DDR4. It is there, but not worth it. Currently it's just for early adopters, or people with crap loads of cash.

Hm...But the warranty. I mean it will take less than year to build it.

Hm...Well I'm planning to buy it in 6 months(6th step). Every step - every month.

Computer case I'm planning to order tomorrow or today.

Well it's better more than less. I suppose.

Wait until you can get it all, then you can choose everything at once. Then nothing will be outdated, and warraties are 1 year, 6 months in, if it breaks you're screwed. Just save up.

What do you want to do with your computer?

The problem is that I simply rather stingy...And I can save for several years...And in the end won't buy anything...

Keep it for the next 6 years I suppose.
As I said before I'm not a gamer - hell I don't even have time to play - from 8.00 AM till 10.00 PM/8.00PM I'm out of home every day and even at weekends half of the day I'm quite busy.
I just want to know that I have a machine which is capable to run everything...Satisfaction is a main goal.

P.S. Actually I use my laptop HP Pavilion dv5 1041et and this machine is enough for me

Wait for a 14nm chip.. I don't feel like looking it up right now but Intel is releasing another platform. I doubt it will oc that well but it will be more power per ghz anyway.

Might even be 10nm soon but gpu's will get these new chips too and will increase efficiency as well as 4k performance.

Interesting...I CAN wait but the problem is that hardware upgrades rather often...

Hi there! I decided to reopen topic.
Due to some circumstances now I am able to buy it all at once in 3 months.
So the configuration I am aiming to is

case: Aerocool Strike-X ST or Cooler Master Storm Trooper
motherboard: Asus Rampage V Extreme
processor: CPU Intel Core i7-5820K BOX [decided to go with 5820 instead of 5930. I wanted 5930 at first.]
RAM: Kingston HyperX Predator 4*4GB DDR4
videocard: Geforce GTX 980 4GB Palit JetStream
power supply: FSP Aurum PRO 1000W
HDD: ? [>= 2 TB]
SSD: ? [<= 512 GB]
cooler: ? [Zalman Reserator 3 Max. or Corsair CWCH105]
BD drive: ?

As far I as I know everything should be compatible.
The things that remained is HDD & SSD & cooler. The problem is that unlike other parts I cannot differentiate them. What's better what's worse and etc. Disks I haven't used for several years but maybe some bluray drive I should buy.

Cooler I suppose should support LGA2011-3. Or the cooler with LGA2011 is sufficient? Like Zalman Reserator 3 Max. or Corsair CWCH105

Also I want to make snapshots of my SSD with windows from time to time [every month for example] so I am planning to by additional HDD where I'll store them.

I would go with the H105, but other than that, awesome build.

Yes. I decided to choose corsair hydro h105. Also as for I SSD I'm looking into Samsung 850 Evo.
As for HDD - no idea for now.

Samsung SSD's are great, and any Seagate or Western Digital drive will do. They're all the same.

I see. Thanks.
Then I'll buy Samsung 850 Evo 500 GB for my Windows.
And for applications I'll buy another Evo 500 GB (some games like Sims 3 or Skyrim with mods have painful loading times - 20 minutes last time Sims 3 was loading...) later.

Well if there is no difference then I'll go with WD (cause I've got a discount at local shop for these hard drives). As for model - Western Digital WD2003FZEX.
Also for SSD snapshots I'll go with WD1003FZEX.

Additional question: should I got with RAID? Because the case is rather big and it's capable to have multiple HDDs.

So the last thing is left - BD drive.

Yup. I mean BD RE.

Well the games won't have smaller sizes...

Also I selected Bluray drives
Pioneer BDR-209EBK
LG BH16NS40
