PC no longer detects LAN cable

I never had problems with the connection using a Ethernet lan cable. But yesterday after turning on the PC it suddenly shows that there's no internet even though the cable is plugged in. I plugged the cable into another PC and wired connection works perfectly on it. Plugged it back into the first PC, still no internet. When I click on internet option, there is no way to choose wired connection, only the available wifi connections. It's as if the PC can't detect there is a lan cable plugged in. Restarting the PC or router did not solve the issue.

The really weird thing is that I was able to connect to the internet via wifi briefly after turning on the PC, even though my PC doesn't have wifi antenna! How's that even possible? But now I can't connect to the wifi anymore either, it says can't connect to this network.

I didn't change anything on my PC, both physically or internally. Anyone know what might have caused the problem? I can still see the green light on the motherboard ethernet port, but the orange light that usually flashes is gone.

thanks

Thanks.

Thanks for the answer. I went into device manager and there are a lot of stuffs under network adapters. Is it in there? Is it the Realtek PCIe GBE family controller? The other are wireless or Wan miniport.

You could do an uninstall of everything under network adapters in device manager by doing a right mouse click on each one and then do a scan for hardware changes under the action drop down on the device manager command bar. That should redetect and reload the device drivers.
