[SOLVED] PC no longer starts

Hi,

This morning I tried to start up my 6 month old PC, and nothing happened, no lights, no fan activity, no sounds, nothing. It was working fine last night.

I have tried bridging the power button, nothing happened.

I have tried the psu from my mums PC, still dead. I tried running my mums PC off my psu and it worked, so at this point it is looking like motherboard, gpu, cpu or ram.

I have tried booting it with just 1 stick of ram, still nothing.

I have tried a different (working) cmos battery and nothing.

I have ordered a motherboard speaker just now, so hopefully that will help diagnose the fault.

Is there anything else I can try to narrow down the fault?

Not sure if relevant but a few weeks ago I accidently pressed the power button on the case and the PC switched off. I struggled to get it to boot again, but switching the psu switch off for a minute and back on fixed the issue. However some of my usb ports were no longer working after this.

Specs:

I5 9400F 2.9ghz
Gigabyte B360 HD3 ATX motherboard
Zotac 2060 AMP gpu
Teamgroup elite 16GB DDR4 dual channel
Noctua NH-U14S cpu cooler
Be Quiet! Pure power 11 600W 80 plus gold psu
Windows 10 64bit Home

Thanks in advance for any help!

Solution
It could be the usb cable, motherboard connector for the cable, or the ports themselves. I guess it could also be a driver issue if there are separate drivers for the back usb ports and the front usb ports.

On a side note, my last PC was having issues with the rear USB ports - randomly disconnecting and reconnecting till eventually one or two of them became unusable. A few months later my system started to hang up once in awhile and I'd have to power down/up to get it to work. Not long after that it stopped coming up at all. Since that PC was 9 years old, I decided to upgrade.
Most motherboards (I think) have a light to indicate it's connected to a switched on power supply. If your motherboard light is not on, and your power supply works in your mother's computer, then my guess is your motherboard is the culprit.

Hopefully someone more experienced will respond to your post. Good luck.

So, this got me thinking, I unplugged the case USB cable from the motherboard, and the PC booted and loaded up fine. I guess it was linked to my earlier issue and this cable was shorting out.

Any ideas how to get the usb ports up and running again? 1 On my motherboard and the 2 on the front of the case stopped working.

The 'case' USB cable is for the front USB ports. Are all/any USB port on the back working? If there are USB ports on the back that aren't working, then the issue is likely the motherboard. I don't think it likely that a motherboard USB failure can be repaired but you might try Googling it.

I just checked, the Usb ports on the mobo all seem to be working, I thought one had stopped when I had that issue a few weeks ago.

So it would seem the front case usb slots are the only ones no longer working. Would it just be a case (pardon the pun) of replacing the usb cable from the case, or are the ports themselves fried? Any idea what happened to them, some sort of power surge?
