Question (PC NOOB) I am considering upgrading my Intel i5-9600k CPU, but I am not sure if it will bottleneck or even if it's compatible with my motherboard ?

I have been considering an upgrade for the longest time because Im playing CPU heavy games (I have been told) e.g. CS2. Im experiencing sudden fps drops and performance drops but Im not sure its because of my CPU or other factors. I dont have any knowledgable people around me and I dont know where to go from here. Should I need to upgrade anything or exchange?

CPU: Intel i5-9600k
GPU: AMD Radeon RX 7700 XT

Thanks in advance

took quite a while to find everything but here:

Motherboard: MPG Z390 GAMING PLUS (MS-7B51)
RAM: 32 GB
CPU: Intel i5-9600k
GPU: AMD Radeon RX 7700 XT
PSU: Thermaltake TR2 S 700W
CPU-Cooler: Alpenföhn Brocken 3
(Idk if its necessary information but, 500GB SSD is more than enough for me)

If you need anything else please let me know
thanks again in advance =)

above is the spec sheet to your motherboard.

CPU support for 9th and 8th generation CPU. You are on the 9th generation, which i think tops out at the 9900K.

Don't know what your expectations are; nor your budget. Maybe you can spend only 100 which would have a very limited effect; 500 or 600 might make a big difference.

The 9900k single thread rating on a common benchmark is only 7 percent higher than the 9600k.

Don't know how much improvement you might see with a new video card, but I'd tend to shy away from upgrading the CPU without also upgrading to a recent generation motherboard........but your budget may say otherwise.

If your power supply is 5 or 6 years old, it might be a prime candidate for replacement, particularly if you upgrade the CPU substantially.

New RAM would be a low priority candidate on the existing motherboard, but if you get a new motherboard, DDR 5 may be a worthwhile option. Price differential between DDR 4 and DDR 5 is minimal.

is there a Motherboard, CPU combo which is in the range of 600-900 Euro you would recommend? Im not that tech savvy unfortunately, but Im trying to get to know my PC better

Do you intend to replace certain parts and put this thing together yourself???

Or have a shop do it?

Or buy another entirely new PC pre-assembled and ready to go.

You could generally do quite well for 900 assuming you bought certain parts and put it all together.

I know little about video cards so that may blow up your budget. But 900 for motherboard, CPU, new RAM, new power supply should be fine at 900 or maybe less. You might be able to keep existing DDR 4 RAM. Maybe even power supply? Figure maybe 200 to 250 for motherboard and 250 to 400 for CPU? Maybe 125 for 32 GB of new DDR 5 if thought necessary. Decent power supplies might begin around 100?

I don't game.

I think that video card was introduced last year near 400 or 500 euros and can use up to 250 watts.

I assume this is primarily a gaming machine, so video cards can really eat up a budget. For all I know, spending 900 on a new video card will gain you more than replacing all the other parts for 900.

Let someone else comment on how much of your 900 should be spent on a new video card.......IF ANY?

Generally I would replace the Hardware myself as I did before, I just dont have a single clue which specs fit with which ones and which ones are suitable with the other ones.
Would love some suggestions for a specific, maybe someone knows one? =D

Do you lean toward Intel or AMD or no preference?

If Intel....

Look at Intel 14600K cpu; probably 300 to 350 euros; guessing; could drop down a notch to 14500 or 13600k if necessary for budget.

MSI or Gigabyte Z790 chipset ATX motherboard; there are several; pick a mid range model probably 250 max that will accept DDR 5 ram. Some won't and are DDR 4 only.

DDR 5 RAM; look at a 32 GB kit of G Skill "Ripjaws" RAM; 2 sticks of 16 each; speed say 5600 to 6400 somewhere. CL rating 36 or lower.

power supply; shop for a Corsair, Seasonic, Superflower; 650 to 750 watts; at least a 5 year warranty.

Cooler; some Intel cpus include one; some don't; you can get a good air cooler for maybe 60 or 70 euros if needed. You don't need liquid cooling.

Stay with your current video card until somebody says it should be changed.

Price that stuff at your vendor of choice and post a link with prices to what you found so we can comment on it.

If you want to go totally cheap get a 12600kf and a low cost refurbished motherboard that uses DDR4 memory so you can go with what you already have.
12600kf = 159 Dollars. I am currently running a 12600k and it runs all my games great, paired with a 7800XT.
MSI PRO B760M-A = 120 Dollars. I picked that one since I used a B660M-A for my last motherboard and it ran great with my 12600k. Don't worry about it being refurbished.
Both of these choices are low cost and perform great.

Which country in Europe? It affects prices and availablity.

The i5 13400 is a big improvement over your existing CPU. It comes with a cooler.

If your power supply is old, it needs to be replaced. If it is still new, and under warranty you can keep your old PSU.

Maybe you can reuse your memory, so you don't need to buy the G.Skill kit.
Let us know your memory model number:
- open command prompt (hit winkey, search for "cmd")
- type in or paste this: "wmic memorychip get devicelocator, partnumber"

I recommend taking the NVMe SSD if your 500Gb is a SATA model. Plus, you'll run out of space eventually. :)

If you don't know how to build, bribe a friend. Or read the manuals that come with the equipment. It's tricky but you don't have to be perfect.
