Yesterday I received my new gpu, a Gigabyte 280x Rev. 1 that I bought used to replace my sapphire 7850. Upon putting the card in my system, the pc wont go past the starting windows screen. It just goes black and restarts after a bit. I can get into the bios and it will run stable until I try to boot. It does the exact same thing if I try to boot from a windows setup disk or if I try to boot ubuntu. The same thing always happens. The problem continues even when I revert back to my old card. These are the things i've tried without having any success:

*Updating and re-flashing the Bios
*Reseting the CMOS
*changing PCI-e slots
*taking the MB out of the chassis and trying to boot
*Changing RAM slots
*booting from usb, hard drive, and optical drive

Build: Asus m5a97 LE 2.0 MB
4gb crucial ballistix memory
amd 6300 cpu
WD 1tb blue hard drive
Gigabyte 280x r1/ sapphire 7850 1gb

Any help is much appreciated and thanks in advance

I'm pretty sure that you've tried almost everything.
Try though again clearing the CMOS (unplug the power cord and remove the CMOS battery for a minute), installing the old card, removing the HDD, starting the board and booting from an Windows DVD. See if booting.
