PC not booting correctly after installing new video card

To give you an idea of what I was doing, I was upgrading my power supply and graphics card. Installed them both. I connected my monitor to my PC via DVI. Then when I booted it up, the monitor wasn't receiving a signal. Nor was my keyboard (tried pressing caps lock and light wasn't going on). So my friend said I might have to take out the new graphics card, boot up the PC, and disable the integrated graphics card. However, when I put everything back together the way it was (including with the original power supply) it did the same thing. No signal to monitor or keyboard. The PC is not being fully booted correctly. It powers on and everything, but something is wrong. Could you guys help! I hope I didn't screw up my motherboard!

I run into this "turns on, no signal to monitor" a lot.

One time simply reseating the RAM fixed it. Pop the sticks out, press them back in, and try again.

Do you have a speaker on your motherboard? If so, is it beeping at all? Beep codes can be very helpful.

When you turn the computer on or plug the monitor in, does it appear to look for a signal for a few seconds before giving you a blank screen or a "no signal" message? If so, it is sensing something. This is mainly helpful if you're trying to work on a system that has no onboard graphics, but in the troubleshooting business all information is good to have. If you see absolutely no difference on the monitor when you power on / plug in your computer, then you know where the problem is. Test or switch out both the cable and monitor just to double check that they aren't the problem.

Is it the same monitor? Your post sounds like it probably is, but if it isn't, try the original monitor.

You say that after installing the graphics card you hooked it up via DVI. What is the onboard graphics? Are you connecting to different ports on the monitor? There's some possibility of analog/digital issues if you're switching between DVI and VGA. Unlikely based on the information you gave, but a possibility.

If all else fails, I can offer two final options.
One: Get a motherboard testing card. I have not found these to be terribly helpful, as the two that I've tried have never given me usable information, but it's worth a shot.
Two: Do a step-by-step teardown. Start with resetting CMOS and move on from there until you (a) get down to just the motherboard, processor, and PSU, or (b) get a beep code. There's a pair of YouTube videos that show you how to do this in detail; I'll try to find them.

The third possibility is that someone else here will provide insight that can help us both. 🙂 I wish you the best; this is a very frustration situation to be in!
