pc not booting from hard drive !

connected hard drive to friends computer and installed windows in it ,..my pc automatically goes into bios without starting windows from hard disk, when try to boot from hard disk through bios , it dsnt respond ... but the hard drive works perfectly on the other pc,.. the bios shows the hard disk to be present ,and is present in boot menu also . the boot order priority is set to hard disk .. my hard disk is 160gb size , but is sata connected. my computer has asus z170-p mobo , could it be that this is due to my hard disk being old and incompatible with new mobo ? please help , desperate to start up my first PC

I believe that the issue is coming from the fact that you are trying to boot from an operating system that doesn't belong to the new motherboard. The OS is tied to the motherboard, whereas the HDD is just a carrier for the system files. You will need a genuine Windows installation which you should be able to install onto that hard drive from the new motherboard. You can't install Windows from one computer and boot into it from another one, unfortunately, it doesn't work like that. 🙁

Once you get the new Windows OS, you should be good to go with the start up of your first PC rig!
