So I got a gaming PC from ebay a while back all is good but the processer needs to be better for newer games here's my specs

Device name DESKTOP-KBK57TJ
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2600 CPU @ 3.40GHz 3.40 GHz
Installed RAM 32.0 GB (31.8 GB usable)
Product ID 00326-03567-41161-AAOEM
System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

been looking at this chip

Intel Core I7-7700k / 4.20ghz / Quad-core 8Mb / Lga1151 Socket SR33A

just wondering if that would be a good upgrade and will it allow me to play more modern games like mass effect legendary edition or even the new cod

that cpu needs a new mobo, if you could find a h110, b150, z170 mobo using ddr3 chip then you could re use your ram. but to me, it is just better to sell the ram sticks, the mobo, and the processor, grab an i3 10100F (equals to an i7 7700) + b560m mobo + ddr4 kit (16gb or 32gb kit) @3600mhz.

Please try and keep your thoughts on one thread. Opening multiple threads will only lead to spaghetti brains.

When posting a thread of troubleshooting nature, it's customary to include your full system's specs. Please list them like so:
CPU:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
OS:
Monitor:

From the way your post has gone...I'd suggest not to invest on older platform technology and save the money for a concurrent higher spec'd system. Most likely nothing from your Ebay system can be salvaged...not even the storage.

As others have suggested you would need a new motherboard, CPU and RAM as you can go no further on that platform. What sort of budget do you have available for an upgrade?
Also have you tried mass effect legendary edition on your current system? I'm surprised you can't play it on a i7 2600K.

I can play Mass effect but only on minimum looking at can you play it all it says the issue is the cpu everytime and clicking on suggested upgrade it brought up the cpu I posted that seems to be the issue with most games this was a budget gaming PC when I got it for around 600

as for budget its next to zero I am having to save up for a medical treatment as well and all I have is around £400

Try UBM again but this time reboot and wait a few mins then run UBM with the browser closed.

I understand it's an old CPU though your GPU is quite good. It was my understanding that Mass Effect Legendary Edition wasn't very demanding that's why I'm surprised an old 4 core/8 thread chip can't run it. It kind of makes me think there might be something else wrong.

In terms of an upgrade, then the most cost effective upgrades to me are the i5 10400F or 11400F:
£133.99

Cooler
£24.99

So the cheapest option is £280.95, that would get you an i5 10400F (6 cores/12 threads) and 16GB DDR4 ram + motherboard. That would give you a 48% boost in single core performance and more than double in multicore, a much better investment than a 7700K. I've assumed you don't have a cooler for the 10400F though that may not be the case.

If you have to save up for health related expenses though then I would prioritise that really and try to live with what you've got for the time being. Are there any other games your having trouble with?

i would personally choose an Asrock b560m pro4 or steel legend, or a MSi b560m bazooka or mortar for those cpu since b560m could do mem oc on any of those 10th or 11th gen cpus. for cpu, 10400f should be plenty. and for ram, go for a 3600mhz kit, the cheapest one should be differ slightly with a 3200mhz ones, so why not?

Your right and I'd tend to agree which is why I included the B560M as an option. I've generally gone for the components suggested to keep the price low as possible. The difference in RAM price between the 3000Mhz and the 3600Mhz is quite small so it can seem almost rude not to, but you'd be looking at another £30 to get the B560M and 3600Mhz RAM overall, roughly 10%. It wouldn't be the end of the world to run ram at 2666Mhz on the B460M, I've never found RAM speeds to have much impact myself but I take your point.

I go from here

https://www.systemrequirementslab.com/cyri/requirements/mass-effect-legendary-edition/20521

with can I run something on low there is no issue but recommended it comes up with this

CPU
Minimum:

Intel Core i7-7700 or AMD Ryzen 7 3700X
You have:
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2600 CPU @ 3.40GHz

I am confused because I was told I might not have to upgrade the motherboard and ram it depends on the chip you add if that would be needed

the reason I got this PC was I play a ton of strategy games and they all work on here the most graphic intensive game I had was Total war Attila and Rome 2 but this runs them great I have been getting all the free games from Epic from day one and I can run GTA V on full settings my main thing was getting the 32gb memory and a card that would run those games

but since I added game pass ultimate I am playing more different games

btw how much would a new PC with the upgrades you mentioned already there I will have 600 saved by January its meant to go to a medical treatment but if I could look at a PC that would work at that cost

well those minimum are set by the dev, while actually it plays fine on yours. if you want to change to 7700, it would be a waste. got 600 bucks? go for an i7 10700F, 2x16gb (or buy 2 kit of 2x8gb , which will make it 4 sticks) ddr4 3600mhz (since priced up slightly different than 3200mhz), and a B560M Mortar or Bazooka. It's worth your bucks.

there is no way you could put that i7 7700 on that motherboard, whoever told ya, your board only maxes out on i7 2700K, 3770K, and E3 1290 and it's V2. since it's LGA 1155 and you are aiming at an lga 1151 cpu. Not even any amd cpu would fit that mobo.

You want an upgrade with the same ammount of ram? go with the suggestion i gave or the others.
