Hi there folks! My boss just approved me a (tight) budget for a new PC. (Yay) So this new PC will mainly be for work (but a little bit of gaming when boss is not around :D )

So this PC will be on 24/7.
- 90% of the time, my work involves TONS of research so I will have a bunch of browsers open with a total of 30-50 Tabs in it -- plus some web developing and PHotoshop CS5

- And I also have around 10+ windows of 2D online games that I hide in the background (current 8GB of RAM IS SCREAMING!)

- I'm also hoping to play a bunch of heavier games like Skyrim and other newer games in the future ----- while all those browser tabs and 2D games are in the background (My current 8GB RAM and HD 5450 wont allow me to do this)

I already have a Case, PSU and HDD lying somewhere in the warehouse. So All I need right now are CPU, GPU, MOBO and RAM. (Oh I will be using a 300$ Amazon gift card.)

So I'm thinking I need atleast a quad-core? Just due to the multi-uses alone.

- So either an AMD FX 4300 (89$) or Athlon X4 760k (83$)

- Crucial ballistix 16GB RAM (160$) (need this. RAM is very important for work thats why I can't have an A10 with integrated GPU stealing memory from RAM)

- MoBo is around 70$-ish

- GPU: MSI R7 260 1GD5 OC (75$ after rebate ---- 260x is 109$)

So this Rig is already overbudget (395$), I will have to take 95$ out of my pocket. But if I can play games like skyrim while having a workload in the background, then it will be worht it.

Questions:

- Am I right to assume that I need atleast 4 cores? Or maybe a cheaper Intel G328 will do?

- Is the 35$ extra for 260x worth it? Or will the 1GB gddr5 be enough?

Working all day will drive me insane! I need games too! Help!

Solution
I built two friends pc using the intel 3258 and for having only two cores there pc are fast. the intel cpu is faster then the fx4300 and the x700 amd cpu. if you have a local micro center there a 99.00 combo on the g3258 and msi z97 mb.
I would wait a few weeks for the gpu wait for nvidia and amd to drop newer gpu it force the older cards cheaper for you.

Is that you, boss? Geez I went to great lengths into making myself as anonymous as possible. Yet you still found me. :(

Ok, be back to work first thing monday. :heink:

(I could not add a larger cooler due to the small case size)
