every time i boot the pc hangs on the loading widows screen. however if i switch the cmos jumper then the pc boots fine. when i reset it hangs again! i have reinstaled the bios but that had no effect.

It must be the mobo as i have tryed 3 cpus and 2 lots of ram the gpu is onboard. short of rma the mobo i am stumped its a biostar TA790GX 128M any ideas would be greatly apprecated!

none but it dosnt get far enough into booting for that, as soon as loading windows is shown the keyboad lights cut out and it stops it also happens if i try to repare windows! or load a live disk

It gets far enough . . . you reset your CMOS, do a good boot into Windows . . . some BIOS adjustment may be made . . . it runs OK while in Windows . . . you reset . . . the BIOS adjustment prevents the bootup.

But, since you are sure you have none installed, its not that.

You've swapped cpus and ram, and it sure doesn't sound like the psu . . .
