Hello fellow PC enthusiasts!

I have a weird issue. Since my recent bios update (I use bios flashback via thumb drive and i did reset to defaults) my PC takes 2 attempts to boot. Every time I boot the first time from a cold start, it boots and gives a DRAM light on my MOBO. But If I turn it off and try to start it again, it boots no problem. I've had the PC for nearly 2 years and it's never been an issue till now.

What would you suggest I do? I'll put some of my hardware below in case it helps!

Hardware:
CPU 3700x
MOBO B550-f rog strix
RAM 4x16GB trident z neo ram (dual rank)
PSU 850W corsair 80+ plat

Thanks in advance! My only thought is the bios update put more stress on the memory controller and having all 4 dimms filled with dual rank is putting too much stress? I haven't tried booting it up and testing with just 2 dimms filled.

I am a live streamer and often editing for others also for YouTube.

You mean you cleared the CMOS after the BIOS was successfully updated? Or do you mean you just went into BIOS and set them to defaults?

Could be a memory controller issue if your DRAM is being flagged after the ram upgrade. Do you see the same issue crop up when working with 2 sticks out of the four, only populating slots A2 and B2?

I did take out A1 and B1 and it seems to boot perfectly with just 2 sticks vs 4 sticks. I still find it strange that with 4, after the bios update, every 1st boot fails but 2nd boot works like a charm.

I also tried to disable docp with 4 sticks and had the same issue.

I'd say the memory controller thought is accurate. I guess I just have to wait for another update before it's potentially stable?

Thanks for the reply!

Ok, I wanted to be sure that I tested things properly.

I have done another clear cmos, reflash the bios again, use DDU and reinstalled everything required. Whether I run 4 dimms at stock or at DOCP it will fail at least 95% of the times I power it up for the first time, like no POST. Once I turn off and back on, works 100% of the time.

Only thing I haven't tested fully yet was if I power on with just 3 sticks or switch the sticks around.

I'll update soon!

So what I tested was reset back to bios default once more and then took all ram out and mixed them in different spots and seems to be working again on first boot.

Not sure but I'll test again today at different times but so far so good!

Alright, sorry for not responding sooner! I have now tried the ram in different configurations and it works in every combination other than 4 dimms. Again, first power up it doesn't POST and if I force shutdown and power it back up, it works without fail running any stock or overclock that I send at it.

Outside of trying a full OS reinstall (could this possibly fix it?) I'm wondering if it's my MOBO or CPU. I did a full memtest86 and it passed with all 4 dimms on the test.

I'm considering ordering a 5900x as I like the idea of more cores and it would work with my mobo. I guess I should do a full reinstall of OS first. If that has the same issues my guess is it's my MOBO so if just RMA it and then I guess all would be solved?

Anyone have any other questions or ideas for me to try?
