Had to edit because I put the wrong motherboard in there, it's since been corrected!

Hello~!

I have a gaming PC that I actually put together with the help of the awesome community here a few years back! Two years later and it's still running well, but it definitely can use some upgrades.

Currently my motherboard is ASUS Micro ATX DDR3 1600 LGA 1150 Motherboard B85M-G R2.0 which I'm hoping to keep, though if I do need to swap it out it's going to delay my upgrade plans a bit.

My main questions are about my CPU and my Graphics card, currently I'm using the following:
Intel - Core i3-4150 3.5GHz Dual-Core Processor
EVGA GeForce GTX 960 2GB SuperSC ACX 2.0+ Video Card

I'm also running only one 8gb stick of ram at the moment:
Crucial Ballistix Tactical 8GB DDR3-1600 Memory
However, I just bought a second one of those so I'm not toooo concerned about my RAM needs at the moment. (don't know if this matters at all, but I'd rather include it than not!)

Anyways, I'm hoping to upgrade both the graphics card and the processor because games are starting to kick the old gal down a bit and it's definitely starting to show.

I'm just not sure what to upgrade to, I've been told to jump to an i7 but I don't feel like that's necessary with my current gaming needs. I don't overclock my pc at current and I've got no plans to in the future. So basically I THINK an i5 would be what I want, I know I need to match my LGA 1150 socket, but I'm finding prices that wildly vary for the i5s.
For the life of me I can't remember if I have cooling fan over my i3, I want to say I don't? If I do, can I just use it for my i5? I'm guessing it's necessary for an i5? Should I be buying thermal paste separately, or do the chips normally come with this?

As for the graphics card, I'm at a loss for my best options? I know that graphics cards are pricy right now due to currency mining ops so I'm wondering if it's even something I want to bother upgrading at the moment?

As for budget, I mean less is better but since I had such a strict budget for the initial build I'm luckily not as limited for upgrades. I really would like to purchase today or tomorrow so I can have this thing up and running as soon as I can!

Please let me know if I can clarify anything or if I'm missing any info!

I changed the card and this is your cheapest i5 option but it's not hyper threaded because it's i5

This one is a step up on the CPU. This one can be overclocked

You have to have a cooler on your CPU. If you didn't it would've melted. As for upgrades you can definitely look into i5 but going with i7 would get you the hyper threading. As for a new card you can totally go for a GTX 1050 ti. You said you got another stick of RAM. Make sure it's the same size, runs at the same mhz AND had the same timings. Otherwise you will to into issues.
Here is a pcpp list of the CPU and GPU for upgrade that I've picked out for you. If you tell me your budget I can adjust the choices.

Clearly I'm not super hardware oriented, so thanks for correcting me with CPU fan business!

I'm thinking I'll probably just go with this. Especially that graphics card, that's awesome, except it's out of stock which is a bummer. Would I need to buy a fan for this if I bought the exact item you listed? I think I'd still love to see an i5 option? So I can stare at my screen and try to decide.
