I am getting a new PC and i need to decide what CPU to get. it will be used for 1440p gaming and it will be paired with the GTX 1080 ti. what should i get the intel i7 7820X or the i7 7800X?

i7-8700k is more than sufficient and will be better at gaming.

Might I ask why you wanna go with the X299 chipset and not the Z370?

Cause if it is for gaming the I7 8700K is to be honest... better. And it will cost you less.

If you can I would suggest getting a 8700K and compatible Z370 Mobo instead of the X, for what you are doing spending the extra on a both a chip on board is silly unless you really want to.
