Hi,

I am trying to get my computer which has been blue screening a lot up and running by doing a clean install of Windows 10. So far so good!

I sold the 750 Ti which I had originally bought for the machine for £75 on eBay new in box. I sold it because I didn't want to install it in a computer which wasn't going to work reliably.

I'm also thinking about RAM, because I currently only have a single stick, and I may want to grab 16GB. I'm thinking getting 2x4GB Corsair sticks or 2x8GB Corsair sticks.

For graphics cards, I am looking at the GTX 950 2GB ASUS STRIX edition, the EVGA GTX 960, and the XFX R9 380.

Here are my current specs

Core i5 4460 @ 3.2GHZ
Gigabyte Z97 D3H
1x8GB HyperX FURY 1600mhz DDR3
120GB v300NOW SSD Kingston
1TB WD Caviar Blue
ASUS GT 610 2GB DDR3
EVGA W1 500W 80+
Corsair Spec 01
Windows 10 Home 64 bit

Thank you very much.

Hello Alex.

Corsair makes great RAM and you will be fine with 8GB's if you just want to play video games. And i would recommend the XFX R9 380. It's a great card. But your PSU is not that great so i would probably upgrade that aswell if i wanted to get the 380.

Yeah I know the PSU is not the best, but far from the worse, despite the OEM being the dreaded HEC. Think I'll be able to run a 950 or 960 with it?

Yes you can run a gtx 960 on it better than the 380. But still the PSU upgrade would be great.

Yeah, I was going to upgrade it to a G2 or a RM when I first got it (I thought it was faulty), but the fault of undoing 4 hours work of cable managment doesn't exactly appeal to me....and also it seems my PC has broken. Again.

What happened?

I kept having blue screens of death for random things every time, CACHE_MANAGER, IRQL_NOT_LESS EQUAL. I kept having them, so I reinstalled Windows like people suggested. And now when I woke my PC up today, I got MEMORY_MANAGMENT. So its definitely hardware now. I'm just thinking of giving up on this thing and buying a craptop for all the hassle its giving me

Yep, I tried that when I first had the problem.... Ran MemTest for 4 hours and a bit and it passed, as well as Windows 7 Memory Diagnostic. Think it might be the motherboard, as it did get scratched in the build.
