Hello everyone, any help would be really appreciated on this topic.
My PC (built a month ago):
CPU: i7 5820k @3.3Ghz
MOBO: ASUS X99-S
GPU: MSI GTX 970
RAM: Kingston Fury 16GB DDR4
HDD: 2x WD Green 2TB
SSD: 1x Samung Evo 850 500GB
PSU: Corsair RM650
Cooling: Corsair H100i
So here's my issue: Yesterday my PC cut out, it restarted and upon reaching the ASUS startup logo it said "Power Surge detected" and said it was due to a possibly unstable PSU. It happened again on the same day with the same message.
I went online to research, i found that apparently the ASUS motherboard's voltage surge sensors are a bit overly sensitive, and that i should turn the support off in the BIOS. I also found that the PSU i have is really not that good. First i turned off the warning, and everything was fine for the night, then today it cut out and restarted again (this time no warning as expected).
So, i contacted Corsair, they gave me some troubleshoot steps:
1) Turn off the ASUS surge support warning (already did that, no difference)
2) Make sure Temps are okay (temps havent changed, around 35degrees c GPU/CPU)
3) Turn off EIST in BIOS (Did that, cut out restarted like usual)
4) Remove GPU and test with motherboard.
> So im on step 4, i have an X99 motherboard which doesnt have an integrated GPU solution. I have told this to the corsair technician but i havent heard back since. Anyway, ive replaced my GTX 970 with my old GTX 660ti. So far i haven't had a restart or a cutout. Everything seems fine. Temps are normal, the 660ti is running at 47 degrees C (normal). So is it to do with my GTX970, or is the problem that my PSU can't handle the 970 and cuts out? Remember, ive had this PC for a month and had no problems before now.
My BIOS version is 1103. Running Windows 8.1
Thank you for any help
