Specs:
CPU: FX 8320
CPU COOLER: Corsair H80i
MOBO: asrock 970 extreme3 am3+ r2.0
GPU: GTX 980 TI
RAM: 2x8gb Kingston HyperX 1866
HDD: 1TB SSHD Seagate
PSU: EVGA 600B

My computer has been shutting down randomly, during gameplay and regular day-to-day activities, for the past few months. For a while it stopped occuring as often, but then about 2 weeks ago it really started to pick up again (Nearly daily). During this time, it seemed like it would happen most often about an hour from when I first started it for the day, but then rarely ever again after that. One day, it shut down, and I tried restarting it, but then there was a spark and a bang, and I didn't dare try starting it again. I couldn't tell where exactly it had come from inside my computer, but I had guessed that it was the power supply, and so I bought a new one (Old one was a EVGA 750B, approx. ~6 years old). I thought that must've solved the problem, but its shut down randomly twice in one week again. It almost certainly hasn't been load temps because my CPU rarely reaches over 45C, if ever, and normally hovers around 35-40 during the games I play. I have a sneaking suspicion that it might be the mobo because of the relatively poor power phase set up, but I'd rather exhaust my other options before shelling out for basically a new pc. Thanks in advance!

You can try to disable the cores in the BIOS, like disable 4 cores, then run the PC again to see what happens. Usually the games do not require more than 4 cores. If the PC will run fine after you disable the cores, you know the problem is from the 4+1 power phase design MB. Then either try add the small fan on top of the VRMs section, like https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSOy4C1kR6yBQE3Qo3YpE_ALwKnkeKbSY0peWnHrclOGFpZcOqs or http://www.overclockers.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=135114&d=1384710155

If you still have the same problem, recommend to test other low power consumption GPU in your PC...

If you still have the same problem, recommend to test other low power consumption GPU in your PC, because the EVGA 600B is not strong enough to handle the gtx980ti +the fx8320. http://www.overclock.net/forum/31-power-supplies/1500086-why-you-should-not-buy-evga-400-600-500b-600b.html
