I have a weird problem with one of my pc's on my network

it refuse to work on the switch, when I connect both of them with cat5e cable the lights on the ethernet ports at the back off the pc and the corresponding port on the switch are off, no blinking, just nothing. However if I connect this particular pc to the router/modem it works!

btw I don't think that it is anything wrong with the switch becase I have connected other devices on it including other pc's without problems.

Switch: D-LINK DGS-1100-08
Router/Modem : Speedport W 724V Type Ci
PC mobo: Gigabyte GA-G41M-ES2L link

Solution
Never used any network card that generic, no idea how well it will work. I usually just get Intel or one of the known brands, Dlink, Netgear, etc...

A cable issue can also cause a card not to run at full gig speed. Have had this happen at a few offices I worked at, had to run a new cable a few times.
So this cable and port work fine on other computers? Or are you trying other ports and cables when testing? Need to see exactly where the issue starts.

You know the network card is OK since it works on the modem, now need to see if it's something on the switch or with the cable.

directly connecting the PC in question to the router/modem, you get network connectivity?
the DGS-1100-08 is a managed switch and can be configured for Static MAC - have there been any configuration changes on the switch?

I bought the switch a few days ago and I connect all my equipment pc's,wifi,IPcamera, etc only one pc did not work, but this particular pc works fine when I connect it on the router/modem, I also try different cables and ports on the switch.

Recap
- PC works fine on router/modem
- Every port on the switch works fine with other pc's and equipment.
- I try different cabels
- I try the usuals, power cycle all of them, switch, router/modem, pc (and reset network adapter on the pc)
- Switch is at the default settings

at this point it is just crazy, I can figure out what is going on...

I found the problem, it turns out that the network adapter on this old Gigabyte GA-G41M-ES2L refuse to run at 1000 Mbit (although on Gigabyte web page it clearly states it can, maybe crappy driver on w10? who knows), the switch was auto detecting a 1000 Mbit device as it should, but the network adapter couldn't run at this speed, I set the network adapter manually to 100 Mbit and finally work on the switch.

btw the router/modem was detecting a 100 Mbit device and that is why it was working in the first place.

if I get a cheap Network card like this will it run at 1000 Mbit?

(although these cheap Network cards card do not specify if they have proper drivers for w10)
