hello guys, a few months ago I started playing Minecraft. after a few days, while playing, my pc restarted with the error:
power supply surges detected during previous power on. ASUS anti surge protected system from unstable power supply!
so I checked the temp.
while gaming the temp went up to 97C
so I bought a better cooler.
this time when I get The error my temp is 40C
what do I do now?
specs:
Intel I5-6400 skylace
ASUS GeForce GTX 750 TI OC 2GB
8 GB ddr3 RAM
550W GREEN PSU
ASUS Z-170A
pls help me

I'd probably look into replacing that unstable power supply.

Will second the unstable power supply issue. It won't necessarily have to do with temperature, but your Mobo is protecting the components from power spikes that could eventually damage things. That may not reflect as general heat, but can result in a blast mark on the motherboard eventually (ie, you are not dealing with too much flow, think more like a tsunami slamming your PC suddenly).

I'm not sure about what particular PSU you have, but a key rule (as a friend who had a literal fire in their PC at one point can attest) never skimp on new PSUs. I'm a sucker for EVGA PSUs and have never had a issue with them. I'd recommend a EVGA 650W G7 or G5 (G is gold rated, number is generation, 5 or 7 are fine, 6 was oddly more expensive...). Both are around $70, but I've never had a EVGA supply give me major problems and when I RMA'd one that had a noisy fan they replaced it with a newer model within a week. Corsairs are good too, and I'm sure there are others that could work but I usually stick with EVGA.

If $70 is steep, the EVGA 500 GD for $55 is a good deal too, or the Corsair CX 550W for $41. I'd still recommend the larger G5/G7 if only because you can upgrade other stuff later and use it in other builds down the road :)

You can also determine what PSU you need using this site if you worry the 500W isn't enough juice: https://outervision.com/power-supply-calculator

Hope that helps!
