Hi,

I have a custom built PC owned for nearly 3 years i think, I've been gaming on it fine since day one. Just a few days ago i turned my PC on and on the desktop screen it shut off automatically and switched on by itself, l then started playing FIFA 18 for a few hours and it then shut off again.

Also, today after a few hours on the PC browsing on Firefox (no gaming) it shut off and turned back on automatically.

I've checked the CPU temps while gaming and its max 48 degrees.

Could someone help me please? Thanks in advance.

PC specs,

Intel i5-4690k (not oc)
hyper x fury 8gb ram ddr3
asrock h97m mobo
cooler master hyper 212 evo cpu cooler
1tb wd HDD
evga gtx 960 ssc (not oc)
XFX XTR 650W 80+ Gold

Since there no sign off overheating CPU it could be the PSU! I had an nearly the same problem as you computer shutting down going into an loop but 2 off my PSU were doing it so i replaced my motherboard so hopefuly wont do the same hopefuly!

I would try an spare PSU if you have one and if it dose not shut off then it was your PSU but if both shut down the computer then it could be another part in your computer that is at fault!

I still waiting to find out because two off my PSU was shutting down the computer and my CPU was not overheating so i replaced my motherboard couple days ago. But safe bet is to see if you got an spare PSU and test that and if it dose not shut down computer then its the PSU but if it dose shut down then its one off the parts in your computer most likely MB.

But it could be many reasons because been trying for weeks to find answers on why my computer shutting down but wanted to share my fault to give an idea! I also would try the cooler to see if any trapped dirt inside it. But it could be many reasons why its shutting down and I dont know what was the fault just decided to replaced my parts because it was hard to find out an answer keep researching google and it just saying PSU overheating the cooling system and such!

Good Luck finding out answers and hopefuly you find one!

OK i see, yeah i might need to replace it through the company cant really buy another just to test it. I appreciate that, I don't understand if it was the PSU why would it turn on in the first place, its weird. The cooler for the processor?

PSU can shut down the computer if it failing to deliver the right power or there an fault with the PSU so I would check PSU first before replacing anything but the cooling system heatsink could have trapped dust inside it!

Your welcome but another idea could you take it to an repair shop maybe they can test it for you because there going to be many answers on internet about why the computer shutting down and repair shops can come in useful if they can test your gaming comp because dont want you to replace things just to find out its doing the same!
