Hello,

My PC completely restarts when playing certain games. No BSOD, just powers down, then powers back up.

My specs:
Operating System
Windows 10 Home 64-bit
CPU
AMD Ryzen 5 2600x
14nm Technology
RAM
16.0GB Dual-Channel DDR4 GSKILL Ripjaws @ 2666MHz (15-15-15-36) (8GB X2)
Motherboard
ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. PRIME B450M-A (AM4)
Graphics
4095MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 (EVGA)
Storage
931GB Seagate ST1000DM003-1CH162 (SATA )
232GB Samsung SSD 970 EVO Plus 250GB (Unknown (SSD))
Optical Drives
No optical disk drives detected
Audio
High Definition Audio Device
Power
Rosewill 630w Bronze 80+ (RG630-S12)

It works fine with:
  • Overwatch
  • Rainbow 6 Siege
  • Assassins Creed Odyssey
  • No Mans Sky
  • (Tons more)
It Restarts on:
  • Smite
  • CS:GO
  • Destiny2
Normally it restarts after playing for 10-30 minutes.

I've already done the following:
  • Flashed newer version of BIOS
  • Re-installed Windows
  • sfc /scannow (it fixed corrupted files, but didn't solve issues)
  • Ran Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool (didn't find any errors)
  • Stress Tests:
    • Ran FurMark (GPU) and Prime95 (CPU) for about 15 minutes.
    • GPU Max Temp and load: 84 degrees C, 100% load
    • CPU Max Temp and load: 74 degrees C, 100% load
    • No crashes.
  • Checked disk health with CrystalDiskInfo, and everything is GOOD.
  • Performed Read/Write tests with CystalDiskMark and everything performs good.
  • Disable factory performance boost on CPU
  • Uninstall drivers and installed newest NVIDIA drivers
  • Ran MemTest64 all night, no errors found.
Here is a link to the HWINFO logs from the time I started playing Destiny 2, until it crashed (Nothing obvious here to me):

This has been happening since I updated my computer to AMD 4. When I did that I got a new motherboard, SSD, RAM, CPU, and a new version of Windows 10. I still have the same GPU, PSU, HDD, and case as before. I have all stock, no aftermarket cooling. Nothing is overclocked.

I thought it might have been a case of an unstable part due to power consumption, or factory boost settings, however my stress testing has convinced me otherwise. I think that if my parts were overheating and causing my pc to shutdown, Prime95 and FurMark would have induced it. I'm running out of things to try and could use help.

Thank You!
EDIT: More detail in specs
EDIT2: Ran MemTest64 all night, no errors found.

Have you check the Event Viewer for any errors that occur before rebooting?
Your GPU might throttles when it reaches 80° C, but that should not cause a shutdown.
Have you try increasing the fan speed (fan curve) with a app like MSI Afterburner?

Are you running FurMark and Prime95 at the same time?
Gaming uses both GPU and CPU

I usually combine CPU and GPU stress tests apps that generated full system loads, by using one of these combinations:

Prime95 (AVX & Small FFTs) + Unigen Valley (loop)
Prime95 (SSE & Small FFTs) + MSI Kombustor GPU Core Burner
Prime95 (AVX & Small FFTs) + FurMark

By the way 15 minutes running both, might not be enough to detect an issue.

Could you post your system components with model.

When gaming my GPU and CPU don't normally come close to those temperatures, only during stress tests, and the stress tests don't cause it to shut down. (According the HWINFO logs my GPU was at 78c and my CPU was at 53c when it restarted).

The event viewer lists this event at the time of the reboot:
Critical 10/13/2019 4:27:24 PM Kernel-Power 41 (63)
The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.

No other errors show in event viewer near reboot time.

I did run both Prime95 and Furmark together.

My system is as follows (same as listed up top, updated RAM and PSU info):
My specs:

Windows 10 Home 64-bit

AMD Ryzen 5 2600x
RAM
16.0GB Dual-Channel DDR4 GSKILL Ripjaws @ 2666MHz (15-15-15-36) (8GB X2)

Optical Drives
No optical disk drives detected
Audio
High Definition Audio Device
Power

Let me know if that doesn't include needed info.
