PC restarts under certain conditions GTX 970 EVGA

Hello

I bought a GTX 970 in April 2016, replacing my (now dead) GTX 570 and it was working fine. Recently, after buying the game Anno 2205 and playing for the first time my computer restarted while loading one of the maps (it "flies" around the whole map before allowing you to play, I believe it's somehow resource intensive).

My specs (everything, but the GPU and SSD, bought in 2011):

GPU: EVGA GTX 970 SC GAMING ACX 2.0
Motherboard: ASUS P8P67 Deluxe
CPU: i5 2500k
Memory: 4x Kingston 4GB
PSU: Seventeam ST-850Z-AF 850W
OS: Windows 10
Storage: SSD Kingston SUV400S37

I have tried to reinstall the game, with no success. I have monitored remotely the temperature of the GPU and CPU before restarting, but they haven't risen that much - around 68º and 55º, respectively, while my room temperature was around 30º at that time.

At first, I thought it was an issue with Anno 2205, and quit trying to fix it at all.

However, a few days later I bought Playerunknown's Battlegrounds and after half an hour playing my computer restarted.

The weird thing is, I'm able to play for hours the following games without issue: Watch Dogs 2, Skyrim, Farcry 4, Farcry Primal, GTA V, Fallout 4.

I have tested my GPU using 3D Mark V2 and no problems while running the performance test. But I couldn't stress it, as only the paid version has a stress test), I'm not quite sure if I did it right. 😛

Is it possible that my PSU may be coming to its end as it's almost 7 years old? Any suggestion would be highly appreciated.

Maybe your PSU isn't enough for your GTX970, it was bought in 2011 so idk.
But it's weird that some games that are quite heavy are working normally.
To check it out better, download MSI afterburner and check the graph "power" while playing the games that work normally, and the games that shut down while playing, see how the graphs behave in each game and tell us here

But it's weird that some games that are quite heavy are working normally.

I have just tested a bit MSI Afterburner and GPU-Z to monitor the GPU while playing.

Tested both Fallout 4 and Anno 2205 - turn out, Fallout 4 isn't as resource intensive as the later - even though Anno does have bad graphics.

Anyway, while playing with Fallout 4 for around half an hour, I could hit a maximum of 80% Power Usage at some point, average 60%.

As for Anno, before the part that would restart my computer, it peaked 80% on MSI Afterburn (last log before computer restart), but on the GPU-Z the power-usage went to 83,6% and, in the last second, suddenly went down to 52,3% - that was the last log on GPUZ.

Does that mean my issue is my PSU? Or should I test something else to be sure?

my friend, I'm not 100% sure about it, but I'd say your PSU isn't working properly.
I won't tell you to buy a new PSU because I'm not the PC expert and I don't wanna run the risk of telling you something that can be wrong, although the info you got me leads to PSU, but please get a second opnion and see if you can borrow one PSU or something to test it, before buying a new one
Note that GTX970 uses around 145watts of your PSU, so get one that can supply that.

It has been a while - but I finally got some free time to search and buy a new PSU.

Bought a Corsair RM650i and yup - problem solved! It was definitely a faulty PSU I had - at least it survived for almost seven years. )
