Hi there, so this issue started a little while ago, went away and then as of last night it has not left me and I just cant find the cause

1) Computer restarts soon as I load (CS:GO, Battlefield 4)
2) Computer sometimes restarts when i play Dota 2 but not always
3) Computer sometimes freezes up when I play Dota 2
4) I have done several stress tests and other tests including
Furmark
Prime95 (even ran these at the same time)
Memtest86
Heavyload
5) I have uninstalled, cleaned and reinstalled nvidia drivers (without geforce experience)
6) I have uninstalled Nahimic sound program just incase
7) My temps are normal
8) I updated my BIOS via MSI liveupdate
9) Updates intel drivers vis MSI liveupdate

PC specs
CPU: Intel Core i7 6700K
RAM: 4 x 4gb DDR4 @1200
MOBO: Z170A GAMING M3
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970
HD 1: SSD Sandisk 250GB (primary drive for OS and games)
HD 2: Western Digital 2TB
No optical drive
PSU: Thermaltake 730W 80+ MODULAR High Performance PSU
OS: Windows 8.1

I am at a complete loss, my first thought was PSU but surely running Furmark and Prime95 would jolt the PSU more than Dota 2 and cause a restart

Any help appreciatted

Solution
Hmm initially i thought it could be PSU or there is something wrong with your windows instalation causing the instability. but since problem still persist even with fresh windows install then it might not be that. Plus the symptom you list above is something that i see on psu problem. It could be that somehow when fully loaded it will operate properly. But when the load is less it has difficulty to make the power output more stable causing the issue you're seeing right now only when playing games.

No BSOD

Event viewer just points to the kernel loosing power due to system crash

No minidumps are being created (I have adjusted the setting for the system to not restart during a bug)
I have also ticked the setting to create minidumps (none are being created)
I have edited my pagefile to make sure minidumps can be created

The last minidump was created about 10 days ago and was a dxdiag error

Reinstalled windows... I wanted to try this before climbing into parts swapping... It is definitely not a windows error as I had a crash the moment i booted into the fresh copy of windows

Yes the problem persists with the fresh install of windows

I then proceeded to swap GPU's with my Wife (she has an AMD card), and the problem still occurs

This is now pushing me to believe there is a problem with the PSU, as no error reports are being generated either. Tomorrow I will go to a PC repair store and check it with a PSU of similar spec to mine.

What are your thoughts Renz496?

Renz you are spot on

I took the PC in to the shop today but failed to recreate the problem in store... so for a moment i thought it might be my wall plug. The clever techie then loaded a stress test that stress's the ENTIRE pc and this caused a restart.

We swapped PSU's and everything is fine now

Thank you very much for you time :) Have a awesome day
