PC restarts when playing games

Hi,

I recently started have problems with my self-built PC. When I am playing games (BF4 as example) my pc just restarts without giving a BSOD. After the reboot I check the event logs giving this same error every single time my pc restarts:
"The Service KMSELDI service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 1 time(s)."

I started browsing the web but I didn't help me. This is really annoying, and I just don't know what is wrong.
I just to have an overclock but disabled that seeing if it would make a change, but no...

PC specs:

  • PSU: Corsair CX430 (I think the problem is my PSU, insufficient I guess)
    CPU: 4670K @ Stock used to run at 4,4 with 1.190 Vcore. Temps are always under 70.
    GPU: XFX R7770 Dual Dissapation
    RAM: Crucial 8GB 1.35V 1600Mhz
    HDD: Seagate 7200RPM 750GB HDD
    MoBo: AsRock Z87M Extreme4
    Case: Silverstone SG10B
As for cooling (it definetely is not a temperature issue):
CPU Cooler: Gelid Tranquillo 2
Fans:

  • Noctua NFB9 Redux (in)
    Noctua NFB9 Redux (in)
    Nexus real silent 120mm (in)
    Nexus real silent 120mm (out)
    Silverstone AP180 (out)

Yeah your PSU is insuffiecient for what you are trying to do. Overclocking on a budget PSU is a BAD idea, especially if you barely have enough power already. You should grab a higher quality unit if you want to try overclocking, and your current PSU could be damaged because of it.

I was already thinking of buying a new PSU. But what you say makes sense and I don't know why I thought of that. Since my case is small, I was thinking of modular or fully-modular. Modular PSU's are about 10-15 bucks more expensive and I don't have much money. So is it worth it picking a modular over a regular? I heard some people say that modular ones have longer cables, I know this depends on the model, let's say Seasonic?
I will be upgrading my GPU this summer to most likely a R9 280X. When I have my new GPU I will be running that 4,4 overclock and a overclock on the GPU. Will 550W still be enough or should I start looking at the 600+ range? Thanks for your answer.

Your PSU may just produce enough power to keep your machine going. for corsair PSUs, you can usually pull more power from them than their rated capacity. I think the the restarting might be caused by your cpu. 1.19v seems to be a little low for 4.4 Ghz. I have the same cpu you have, mine requires 1.3V running benchmarking software stably. But you could have a gold sample.But it doesn't hurt to increase the core voltage by 0.1v, and see if the instability goes away. trust me running 1.3v for a short period of time will not damage your cpu. and you can always turn down the multiplier,if temperature is getting out of hands.

Right now I am not running the overclock. I have run prime95 and it didn't crash, but then the games did restart the computer so I just went back to the 38 multiplier.

And don't you think the problem could have anything to do with the KMSELDI error? Or is it just getting terminated because my pc got "terminated"... but why do other programs or services turn up with terminated error in the event log. Does any of you know what KMSELDI does or what it's for?

Ya it may be a good idea to look at the 650w version of the unit I posted. If you are upgrading to the 280x, and plan to be overclocking it would be a good idea. Those XFX units are made by Seasonic by the way. Very high quality at a very good price. :)

If you have a small case it won't matter anyway for the length of the cables, but most quality units have good length for any mid/full ATX case either way. Where you have a small case it may be a good idea to get modular so you can remove the unused cables. It would be alot neater, and much easier to have good cable management.

How wouldn't it be Haswell compatible? Okay so I think I will be ordering my PSU today then :( I am looking at the Seasonic M12II Evo 620W. It's fully modular for 70€ whereas the 650W XFX costs 78 and isn't modular. Thanks for all your answers! PS so it has nothing to do with KMSELDI?

Thank you all for the reply's it is nice to have a second opinion on something. If I didn't come to ask it here I might have been stuck with the problem for ages... You guys are a great community keep it up!

Okay I ordered the Seasonic :) But why aren't certain PSU's compatible with Haswell? Isn't it just that they need to provide the power and that's it? If my CX430 is still in the waranty limit, could I RMA it and then sell it?

By not compatible do you mean they will not work at all with them? I thought the compatability was just something to do with a new power saving feature. It would be good to know for future recommendations. If it just has something to do with power saving and the non-compatible power supplies still work, would it really be that big of an issue? Or am I just totally wrong on all this? It would just be good to know 100% for sure.
