I just bought a msi r9 390 so i could play newer games without lagg. Now every time i try to play a game, my pc just restarts without any warning or notification.
My setup:
Gigabyte UD3R X58a
Intel i7 950
corsair xms 12gb ram
Chieftec Super Series 650W PSU
My old gpu: xfx 5870

My old gpu worked fine.
I tried updating my bios without any luck. I also tried playing other games like cs:go, gta V, fallout 4. They all crash after a few minutes.
However i know my psu is getting old (5 years), so it might be that, but im not sure.
Anyone have a solution?

POSSIBLE MOTHERBOARD ISSUE: Contact Gigabyte. Your motherboard is possibly the issue. It's PCIE slots are Gen2.0 and your card is Gen3.0. This should not be an issue however - I recently found a compatibility issue with an older motherboard and a Gen3.0 card. This particular board was from HP and they actually admitted (kind of) that the system had an issue...

This from HP..."I understand that you are having issues getting your HP Pavilion HPE h8-1112be Desktop PC towork with your MSI GeForce® GTX 970 4GB Graphics Card. I believe the reason you are experiencing this issue is the the break in the downward compatibility on the PCIe slots was broken at around the Gen 2.1 mark and you are trying to put a Gen 3.0 card in a Gen 1.0...
Do you get a BSOD? If so, it's probably driver related. Else, something is overheating or not getting enough power. It's probably easiest to swap the PSU to test. Also, you could consider re-applying the thermal paste between the CPU and the heatsink. At a first glance though, I'm questioning that PSU. Do you have a mode number so we can research the specs and reviews?

OK. Did that BIOS splash screen display an image like that with your old card or is that new? The card may not be seated in the slot correctly - obviously at this point in the boot process, it would not be a driver issue as no drivers load until Windows loads.

Its seated down corretly, i checked just now. I also checked all cables and they were also connected properly. I didnt have the BIOS splash issue with my 5870. That problem started imediately after i turned on the pc after installing the r9 390.
Its really weird and it doesnt seem like a common problem. However i read on a thread that had the same problem with the bios splash, but he couldnt figure it out either, he also disabled fullscreen, but that just hides the problem.

This in essence makes your computer incompatible with the graphics card you have chosen to use."

Even though your board is a bit dated, it was still a higher end board and I wouldn't expect this same issue but you should call Gigabyte and confirm.

POSSIBLE PSU ISSUE: "Total Power Supply Wattage is NOT the crucial factor in power supply selection!!! Sufficient Total Combined Continuous Power/Current Available on the +12V Rail(s) is the most critical factor." This is quoted from one of our PSU experts here (ko888) Although your power supply is 650W (the recommended minimum) it only supplies 18Amps on the 12V rail. My research is finding that the r9 390 requires 40Amps. The age of your PSU and the lack of an 80+ certificaiton make me question it as well

Allright. Thanks for the time you put in this to help me, i really appreciate it.
I've decided to buy myself a new PSU. I decided to go for the corsair HX850i
For the motherboard, i will try to contact gigabyte.
BTW. what is your opinion on the HX850i? it was between that one and the RM1000
And do you think the possible issue with the MB will do any harm to my GPU in any way?
