PC RTS game like Warlords Battlecry...?

Hi all,
I'm looking for a PC RTS game like the old Warlords Battlecry games...
Build your fortress/base, collect resources, build your army/weapons, up your technology, create special offensive moves, defend, attack etc.
Can anyone recommend anything?
Prefer to have a game which includes the base building etc. rather than just simply attacking (brings in a lil more strategy to the game).
I loved 'Dawn of the Modern World' for this reason.
Any suggestions would be most welcome. Oh and not fussed about what era the game is set.

Well, ever try the Heroes of Might and Magic Series? (3 is my personal favorite)
But pretty much all of these games will be in the ballpark of what you're looking for.

it is an older series but the dawn of war games are still the best in this genre in my humble opinion. you can get them all on steam pretty cheap on sale. i know they are older but nothing has compared to them for me thus far. if you have not played them, i highly recommend them. think i got them all in a bundle on sale for $10. if not on sale they might be $25 i think but don't recall. you get up to 7 different races to play as depending on the game.

the last 2 play like a game of risk but when attacking a neighboring province, you get the skirmish map and have to go through building and such as you describe. so you get to do it over and over as you conquer the world.
