Ok, this is driving me nuts - the computer goes SO SLOW! like opening a new tab in chrome and going to type can take 30 seconds. bringing up the stupid metro menu to search can also take 20-30 seconds. I have only a few things really installed..

the VB.net developed POS app
MS SQL Server
Chrome
Office
I think thats the basics

the PC is (http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/DP700A3D-A01US)
samsung DP700a3d-a01us all in one (touchscreen) for a home built POS system
Specs:
Intel® Core™ i5-3470T Processor (2.9Ghz)
6GB Ram (1600Mhz)
Win 8 (updated to 8.1)
1 TB HD (5400 sata 2)
Intel 2500 integrated GPU

I dont see anything obvious in the Task Manager thats hoggin anything...
How can I track this down? THANKS!

You have a pretty slow hard drive at only 5400RPM but it still shouldn't be that slow when loading things. Things to check for are high RAM utilization, hard drive space, check to see if your hard drive needs defragmented, run chkdsk, Run seatools for windows and do a short test and a long test http://www.seagate.com/support/downloads/item/seatools-win-master/ , scan for viruses using Panda Free antivirus http://www.pandasecurity.com/usa/homeusers/solutions/free-antivirus/ .

try and get an ssd and install windows on there, also make sure your pc is clear of malware, run a full scan on your anti-virus to make sure that you have no malware on there

With those specs it should be running way faster. There could be an issue with your OS or you might have some virus or maleware. Windows 8 makes it really easy to refresh your OS. You have several options: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/restore-refresh-reset-pc

Might want to try the least harsh one then work your way up if it doesn't help. You can also try running a virus scan, but I've found some viruses are so annoying to get rid of it's easier to start fresh with your OS.

Odd.. an update ran (took forever) and it seems so far to be better... still not great. I have run virus scans etc and its clear. I REALLY dont want to have to refresh or reinstall as it took quite a bit of work to get the Point Of Sale working (and I would have to pull off the entire wipe/reload in ONE DAY lol) - I will keep digging... I have a feeling there is some stupid app that Samsung put in thats killing the performance. THANKS

You can use the task manager to monitor if a program is using up a lot of CPU or memory. Chrome can actually use up a crap ton of memory so you might want to keep an eye on that. I have a bunch of chrome tabs and apps running on my PC right now and it's taking up 1.6Gbs of memory. If you go into the startup tab in the task manager you can also see which programs are starting with windows and try disabling stuff in there.
