I should also note that the thermal compound used between CPU and heatsink can harden and become less efficient over time and will require replacement. This will take a few years or more to become a problem, though.

I've seen machine run years without anyone laying hand on them. And I've seen machines that get dusted monthly.
So it's a bit of a decision between when they "need" maintenance, and when they "should" get maintenance.

And then there's obviously the software side as well. But the same applies, it depends on how it is used.
