Hello,

I recently upgraded my mates PC with parts he bought. It ran fine for ~5 days then today it switched off and won't switch back on. It was under load doing some video encoding (or something like that) when it switched off.

Now when the PSU is powered on the motherboard lights up so it is getting power but when you push the power button the GPU lights up for split second but nothing else happens. It doesn't post, RAM doesn't light up (its RGB) and CPU cooler doesn't start up. I've also tried shorting the power pins with a screw driver with the same effect.

I've checked removing each stick of RAM and trying them in a single slot. I've also plugged in the PSU from my PC which I know is working fine and it acts the same.

I'm assuming something has failed in the motherboard but I'm wondering if there's anything else to check before returning it. Specs below; CPU, mobo, RAM and case are all new, everything else came from his old PC.

Ryzen 9 3900X
Asus TUF B450 Gaming Plus
2x 16GB Corsair RGB RAM 3200mhz CL16
MSI GTX 1060 6GB
Corsair CX750M PSU
Corsair 128GB Sata SSD
3 TB HDD

Thanks

The only thing I can think of that you haven't said you have tried is clearing the CMOS with the jumper (or take the battery out). Other than that I guess either motherboard or CPU has failed.
Rechecked everything, tried the CMOS reset, no dice. The motherboard and CPU have been returned and replacements ordered. This time my mate went with the board I recommended so hopefully it'll hold up better than the last one. Thanks for the advice.
