Hey,

My problem is my year old gaming PC shuts down randomly in games (doesn't matter what game), depends on time played for the game eg: CS:GO can take a while but Arma 3 can take 5 mins. The other problem is it is very random, for example it hasn't shut down for about 2 months and then all of a sudden it will do it for a few hours / days (depending on circumstances) then will not do it for a month or more.

Specs:
Motherboard: asus m5a78l-m/usb3
GPU: Radeon 7850HD
CPU: AMD fx-8320
Power Supply: 500W (cant remember brand)

Note: Cooling is not an issue because looking at GPU and CPU temperature on monitoring programs they stay below 40 degrees Celsius

I think you'll want to look at your PSU as a possible suspect here. Some PSU's can start providing wonky power once they get hot. I'll suggest cleaning out the PSU to start with - while the computer is off and unplugged carefully put the plastic wand of compressed air down into the PSU and blow it out until all dust is removed, get corners as best as possible - see if that doesn't help some.
I'm also going to question the temps you are reporting since those are temps I expect to see from an idle PC, not one running games or doing intensive tasks

Hi there Airborne1012,

After you have already measured the temperature of your system and it seems to be fine, you can do some more testing.
You can test your HDD with a brand specific testing tool and see whether there is something wrong with it.
Another component you can test is your RAM. In case you have more than one RAM stick, you can try running games with only one at a time(different ports as well). You can test your RAM with some RAM testing tool as well.
It may be a good idea to update your GPU drivers.
It is also possible that your PSU is causing this as C12Friedman already suggested. Unfortunately, the easiest way to see whether your PSU is causing this is to just borrow another one from somebody and install it in your system.

Cheers,
