I have recently assembled a PC with the following configuration:

PROCESSOR: Intel i7 Core 4790K 4.0 GHz
MOBO: Gigabyte Z97MD3H
RAM: Kingston Hyper X Fury 8 GB
PSU: Cooler Master 600W Thunder
GPU: Asus Geforce GTX 650
HDD: 1x2 TB Seagate

Now I haven't overclocked my processor as of yet because I have not bought a cooler. However for the past week I have faced only one problem so far, that is the PC turns itself of and then immediately it restarts and starts working. But I have no clue as to what is wrong with it because this has happened only twice and it only happens when the PC is idle and it is running a few background tasks.

So guys, what to do?

Solution

Update the Mobo BIOS to the latest release if you haven't already done so to...
To try and work out what's happening leading up to the crash, we need to look at some data.
Go to: C:\Windows\Minidump and see if there are any files in that folder.
If there are, upload them and post a link here.

There's no such folder present!

It could be hidden

Yes I have installed that.

Yes. I thought so too. But no such folder there.

Okay,

well if the folder doesn't exist it's because there has never been a logged crash.
You'll have to look at the event viewer for information leading up to the crash.

Do a Google search for information on how to do this

Good luck

Update the Mobo BIOS to the latest release if you haven't already done so to ensure compatibility with other hardware, CPU, RAM etc. Make sure you have a MOBO speaker installed so you can hear error beeps.

Also there is a difference between shutting down, and it crashing :)
