I have a problem with my stationary computer. The computer is always shutting down when i open any kind of a program. The temperature of CPU's one core gets very hot ~85 C, and the other core is ~60 C.
Computer is running on windows 7 32bit operating system. Its a completely clean install.
2Gb ram
motherboard: ASUSTek M3N78-AM (AM2)
The heat sink and ventilator of the CPU was changed and also a new thermal paste was used.
No condensators on the motherboard arent bloated.
It shuts down even also when i used memtest86 to check ram on boot up, when windows hasnt yet loaded.

AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+
Socket AM2
Cooling is ok, I had changed the cooler, thinking that could fix the problem, but it didnt.
So now i have this idea about changing the CPU's voltage and frequency units in BIOS. I had changed to ''power saver'' mode, and the temperatures now seem to have stabilized and it doesnt power off when running a program. So any ideas?

Its an AMD cooler, the problem persisted also with the first cooler, that was already there. I have changed CPU coolers before. The thermal paste was applied so that it fully covers the metal plate on the CPU with a thin layer, so it doesnt squish out the sides.

Too much thermal paste, you just need a little pea dot in the middle of the CPU, the heatsink will spread it evenly.

Also make sure that the cooler is correctly installed, and that the fan is spinning.

Its not too much, I used approximately the same amount, only I spread it out myself thus covering the whole metal plate. Besides, the problem existed with the first cooler as well, where the thermal paste had already dried out.

I had this problem with a PC I was trying to boot a few weeks ago. Funny enough, I was using the exact same CPU and an Asus board ( altho not the same model ). The PC was also shutting down before it could boot in to Windows properly and even while in the BIOS.

Turned out it was running at 120+ C.

I wasn't using Thermal Paste but was using a Fan/Heatsink. I didn't think that was the problem though as even without Thermal Paste, it still shouldn't get that hot.

It's possible it's a fault with the hardware. The first core is probably faulty because of it's temperature and the second core will also be under similar heat effects as the first one.

Are you overclocking at all?

The processor died.
Now another question: if i need a processor with AM2 socket, can i use any processor with that kind of a socket or it has to be only AMD?
If any suggestions, what processor would it be best to buy for my motherboard?

Sorry to hear that...

You can fit only AMD CPUs; the most powerful is Phenom x6-1090T, followed by Phenom x4-965 (you will need to upgrade the BIOS to the latest version available).

On the other hand, your motherboard can also got damaged, so I'm suggesting a cheap dual core, an Athlon x2-250 for example (around 25$ used); if the motherboard is indeed damaged, you will buy another motherboard, an AM3+ this time, and you'll use that x2-250 until upgrading to a FX CPU (Athlon x2 has DDR2 and DDR3 support, so they will work in both AM2/AM2+ and AM3/AM3+ motherboards).

9500GT should be compatible with any motherboard with a x16 PCI-e slot, new or old.

What are you trying to do? P5K / AliveXFire are old motherboards, you will find them only in second-hand form; moreover, P5K is an Intel board, therefore incompatible with any AMD CPU.

Which one is broken after all, the CPU or the motherboard? If you'll go the route I suggested above (buying an used x2-250, if your 6000+ is kaputt), you will be able to build a much better system without breaking the bank. If the motherboard is broken, I suggest you to build a new computer; think of a budget and we'll try to find the best solution.

Thanks for information :)
So , i think to buy a used motherboard , because on my motherboard already CPU is dead and always errors, etc...
I think buy this one :
CPU : AMD64x2 4000+2. 31
Video card : Nvidia geforce gt 630 2gb ddr3
RAM : 2gb
Motherboard : ASRock AliveXFire-eSata2 for 70 US dollar. Without damage , in good condition.
How do you think? Just i don't need a a best PC , i just need average pc and i think this is best idea..

If the listed price is for all the components, it's OK (the CPU will be weaker than your 6000+, but the GPU will be more powerful); if the motherboard only is 70$, it is too much. You can build (as new) a much powerful system with just north of 100 $:

CPU: AMD A4-7300, dual core, 3,8 GHz: 40$ (its integrated GPU is more powerful than 9500GT);
Motherboard: ASRock FM2A68M-DG3+, FM2+: 46$;
RAM: GSkill Ripjaws 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3-1600 CL8: 35$ .Total: 121$

Of course, if you still have (and use) an IDE HDD, an IDE DVD and a floppy disk, the choice of a used motherboard is your only decent solution.

Thanks you for advice , i really appreciate that :))
70$ this is for all the components.
Yes , i know that if i will pay more , i will get item , but for 70$ for all the components it's really good deal for me.
I will buy this motherboard , later i will use from first motherboard all the components , like HDD , CDROM etc.. :))
I hope everything will be fine..
Thanks you . :)
