Build is as follows:
AMD FX-8320
Corsair CX500 PSU
Asus HD7870 GHz edition
Asus M5A97 LE R2.0
2x GSkill ripjaws 8GB ddr3 1866
Windows 10

Hello, my PC had a problem in which it would shut down randomly when temps seemed within safe bounds, and when rebooted, would stay on only for a few seconds and then shut off. I was not able to get on to change any settings as it would stay on for around 10 seconds, and then subsequently it would only stay on for a few seconds.
I reset the CMOS using the jumper and this seemed to fix the issue.
Now, the PC shuts off randomly during normal use, but will now turn on without problems.
I can play games for hours and it will stay on, or sometimes it will shut off within seconds of me doing something.
Windows shows a Kernel 41, but this obviously doesn't help me pinpoint the root cause.
Any ideas on what could be causing this?

I used to have the same exact issue with that CPU. I used to have the 8350FX and the Asus Pro Gaming 970 Aura Board and would get that stupid kernel 41 power error. There's a couple of things that you can check:

-Is the CPU overclocked?
-If so, did you enter the voltage values manually?
-If you did input the voltages manually, is the CPU getting enough power?
-Are you supplying too much power?
-Have you tried different RAM?
-Have you checked the temps while on 100% CPU load to verify that your CPU is not overheating?

Those AMD FX chips are VERY picky with RAM. This was my problem with the 8350 FX. My RAM was bad. I even dropped the timings to 11-11-11-28 and it fixed the issue for a little, and then started doing the same BS. I also lowered the frequency to 1600Mhz as I was experiencing a lot of overheating when running the RAM at 1866Mhz as I did not have enough cooling at the time.

If you have a spare RAM stick lying around, might be good to see if that helps. Or remove on stick and see how it plays out.

Lastly, maybe a long shot, but your PSU may not be providing enough power. That 8350FX chip draws a lot of power (125w) and if there is not enough power, you can possibly run into the issue your experience. Good luck!

Wish I had another PSU to test, is there an easy way to test the PSU to see if that's it?

Yeah i've switched out the RAM and it doesn't make a difference! I had it slightly overclocked in the past using AI suite II but everything has been set back to default since then and the problem is still happening. I read somewhere that maybe the voltage for the RAM can cause problems with random shutdowns?
