My computer suddenly got extremely slow when doing regular functions (such as renaming a file or folder). what could be the problem?

for example, i change the name of the folder but it does not appear at first, i need to leave and return for the change to show up. or if i copy paste something i need to leave the folder and return to see.

i did a hdd diagnostic and all seem to be fine except for something called "UltraDMA CRC Errors".

thank you. but is there a way to see if its fine or dying? as you mention that it can be dying or perfectly fine?

i run the HDD diagnostic and the only problem was the crc error. i will look for a sdd this week , but maybe it will take 2 weeks. i dont have a backup , is the pc likely to break soon or it will take some time (months or weeks, for example) ?

is the pc likely to die soon or will resist for some additional time?

again, the pc is having problem even to change name of files and folders, i need to leave and returnto the folder to see changes.
There is literally no way to predict a timeline.

I've had problematic drives limp along for years.
I've had drives that were were seeming perfect, 5 weeks old, die.

How...
some questions:

1) is my HDD dying?

2) if it is dying, how soon will it die? will it take days ,weeks or months?

3) will using the pc with this problem quicken its death?

4) will the pc show some more sygns or the HDD can die at any moment now?

5) can this be fixed without losing the memory?

6) i will definitely change to sdd afer this scare and i want to know how fast the hdd will die. but i t will take some weeks for me to change, will waithing be dangeroua?

thanks

may someone answer please? its kinda important as i dont want to lose my pc memory.
Its not even been one day.
Patience.

First off, what is your current backup situation?
Your drive may be dying, or it may be perfectly fine.

Either way, you NEED to have a known good backup routine, starting right now. Before you do anything else.
The more you mess with it, the more likely it is to actually fail.

CRC error is generally a physical fault. Not fixable.

is it recommended to stop using the computer to prevent the hdd death ?

How long will yours still run? Completely unknown.

some questions. hopefully this will be enough to solve doubts.

1) so, it is reccomended to stop using the pc ? is that what you would do?

2) what increases the chance of hdd death ?

3) what are the things i need to avoid to not force the hdd ? since maybe it will take some time for me to get a sdd (maybe 2 weeks) ?

4) would defragmentation and ccleaner increse the longevity of the pc?

5( transferring the memory of my hdd to a ssd would make me have to re-install everything (despythe preserving the memory) ?

thanks.
