Hello again guys. Just a quick note this is the exact PC that windows 7 x64 wouldn't run on.

So the specs are on the previous post, but ill put them here as well.

CPU:Intel Core 2 Quad Extreme 3.00GHz QX9650 LGA775 (running at 3.20Ghz now)
Mobo: Asus ROG Striker II Nse
RAM: Dual Channel Elixr 4GB DDR3 1333Mhz (8GB Total)
HDD: Seagate 500GB "2.5 Inch" Serial ATA HardDisk
GPU: Zotac GeForce 280 1GB
PSU: Akasa 1000W PSU
Optical Drives: 2x TSSTCorp SuperWrite Master
OS: x64 Windows 7 Ultimate
(And yes it is over clocked)

So as I was installing Windows Update, a strange hissing noise started emitting from the inside of the computer. As well as a horrible I took the side panel off and I immediately concluded it was the power supply. I tried to get to the power switch but it was too late. It had already shut itself off. Now I did dismantle the power supply and figured there was nothing wrong with it, no bloated or distressed capacitors or anything on the main board. Nor any bloated capacitors on the Asus motherboard. So I put everything back together and powered the computer and it started, but the hissing noise was still present. I then traced the smell to the CPU, where it also was hissing and squealing. My dad who is also good with PC's assumed it was the fan bearings of the CPU cooler. But it wasn't. I attempted to use a different Intel heat sink from my spare I5 board and made no difference. I am very disappointed with the computer for doing this. But to be honest it was a freebee. Since I live with my parents they are generally afraid of having it on. And since the case is humongous, it takes up a lot of room. And I don't want another doorstop.

Thanks to everyone in advance!

Hello... The Thermal paste can get hot enough too boil and smell... You have a OLDER MB where other things like capacitors can start to go BAD too. Another used/low mileage MB could get you back up and running, the QX9650 is the high end S775, so BIO's info for compatibility will need to be researched for available used boards.

hello... bay or craig is my goto in situation like this... call your local computer repair shops for left over parts from their upgrades... Typically the S775 Mb's were DDR2 memory so that will limit your luck too.

Go to all the major brand websites and determine which older MB model you will need, and just search those Models to speed searching up. an intel chipset of P45 and above would work too https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_chipsets

Do you have a HeatPipe on the Chipset, like I see on some MB pics? maybe your copper solder joints or the copper tubing is leaking air noise as it HEATs? B / simple heating and re-soldering the joints could stop/fix this part.

Its all right man. just probably going to swap all my actual components from my actual PC into the case and shelve the mobo. It's quite a shame really. But I did some dark patches on some voltage regulators near the CPU, so that's probably what's making it squeal and hiss.

Well, looks like ill bump my own question. I guess I was wrong on my answer. 2 of the 8 Yageo R68 Chokes next to the CPU Socket are creating this noise. I have read some things about what they are and still have no clue what they do, even though I do do Electrical work as a side job. But I still don't understand why they make this noise. But in the process of attempting to fix it, i also noticed whoever the PC builder was, they stuck a model sticker over the model name and it turns out it is a "Striker II Extreme" not an NSE, which seems strange since what iv'e read up that the Extreme is better than the NSE.

But thanks anyway guys,
Cheers in advance
