How can I connect my PC/MB to my A/V amp? ( M/B is an ASUS H87 plus 1150 socket). I thought adding a SPDIF card would be a cheaper/easier option. My NVIDIA GeForce GT 740 has an HDMI output, but no way to connect it to my AV amp ( TEAC AG 15D) . Yes, it`s an older model. Would a SPDIF be a viable option? Cable run would be approx 5/6 metres or so. Thanks in advance.

Do you have local auction/sale websites in your area?

I got a decent AV amplifier just on a second hand goods auction site called Gumtree, and it has HDMI inputs. I got it for $120 Australian dollars, and it works very well. The one I got was Onkyo TX-SR252. That one is 5.1 channel.

Maybe keep your eye on auction sites etc. and see if you can get a better AV receiver/amplifier. Hopefully you will be lucky like me and get a nice one. I am sure you are probably doing that already though.

I see your amplifier has a digital optical (Toslink/SPDIF) input. Are you using that for anything?

If you are already using it, you can get things like this also, although it begins to get a bit messy perhaps. Toslink Selector...
What sort of SPDIF connectors do you have, do you have the optical SPDIF, or the 3.5mm plug connectors?
Also what connectors do you have available on your amplifier?

You can also send audio signal via Bluetooth, get a small Bluetooth adapter for your AV amp. They can plug into RCA sockets. This is just for example, not saying you should get this one: Bluetooth Receiver/Transmitter

More features, though a bit more expensive .. Bluetooth Adapter 2

That way you don't need a long cable ... just wireless.

I cannot get this out of my head. I have been trying to think how to use the 3.5mm audio jacks on motherboard to connect to AV amplifier, but can see no easy way to do it like that. Do motherboard manufacturers even try it themselves?

I found another product that may help with your issue. Even though you may not want to send video, perhaps you can just use it for audio. WiFi adapter with HDMI connection

Sorry for all my messages, I will be quiet now.

SPDIF would work, but remember you're bound by SPDIF transmission limitations (Stereo, Dolby and DTS). Unless you have a soundcard that can real-time encode to either Dolby or DTS, you'll be limited to Stereo output.

If your Amp has RCA audio inputs, you can get a 3.5mm to RCA converter cable and connect that way.

Thanks. That`s the way I have it connected now. 3.5mm jack to stereo RCA on the AV amp. Just hoped adding a PCI/PC card would solve the problem.

Thanks for your replies GoofyOne. It seems like I might invest in a Soundbar after all. That would solve my current connection issues. HDMI from my Cable receiver and my Nvidia card straight to the Soundbar would be an easier fix. Not that keen on the TEAC AV amp that was given to me. The lack of HDMI inputs is what`s giving me a damn headache. Thanks again for the input.

My brain begins to hurt with too many ideas and possibilities.

Thanks. The TEAC AG -D15 is quite a decent specced amp ( 7:1) . Just lacking HDMI to make life as easy as possible. It has 2 SPDIF inputs. Only one is used for my cable/TV receiver. Yes, I thought about adding a soundcard with a TOSLINK/SPDIF output. But adding a 6m cable from my PC to the AV amp is kinda costly. As you said, I`m better off saving for a newer AV amp. The SONY STR DN1080 is looking quite tempting. Or maybe the Onkyo TX-NR585. Any experience with those models?

Both of those look very nice. I have no idea which of those will suit you better. I did see this review which mentions both of those ... review here. You may have seen it already but essentially they say both of those are very good.

If you get one of those, maybe you can sell the TEAC AG-D15 to offset your cost a bit.

Good luck, have fun.
