Hi everyone,
I'm having trouble with my new PC build, and I'm hoping someone can help me out. Here are my specs:
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X
  • Motherboard: Aorus B550M Elite Micro ATX
  • GPU: Intel Arc A770
  • PSU: Cooler Master 750W

Issue:

When I set up my PC with the Intel Arc A770 GPU, the system starts (fans spin, lights come on), but there's no display output. However, if I switch to a lower-end GPU, the system boots and displays just fine. I've also tested the Intel Arc A770 in another system, and it works perfectly there. No Problem with CPU, Motherboard, GPU. Each of them tested differently.

What I've Tried So Far:

  1. BIOS Update: Updated the motherboard BIOS from version FB to FE.
  2. Power Supply: Verified that the PSU has sufficient wattage (750W) and proper PCIe power connectors for the GPU.
  3. Reseated GPU: Removed and reinstalled the GPU to ensure a proper connection.
  4. Checked Power Connections: Confirmed all power connections (24-pin, 8-pin CPU, PCIe power connectors) are secure.
  5. Minimum Components Test: Tried booting with only essential components outside the case (CPU, one stick of RAM, PSU, and GPU).
  6. Monitor and Cables: Ensured the monitor is on the correct input source and tried different cables.

Additional Information:

  • The system boots and works perfectly with a different, lower-end GPU.
  • The Intel Arc A770 works fine in another compatible system.
  • No physical damage or debris in the PCIe slots or on the GPU.

Request:

Has anyone encountered a similar issue with the Intel Arc A770 or a similar setup? Any suggestions on additional steps I could try or insights into potential compatibility issues would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you in advance for your help!

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!
PSU: Cooler Master 750W
Coolermaster is the brand of the PSU while 750W is the advertised wattage of the unit. What is the model of the unit? How old is the unit and what did it power prior to the A770?

The system boots and works perfectly with a different, lower-end GPU.
Which is?

Thank you for the welcome!

PSU:

The PSU is a Cooler Master MWE 750W 80+ Certified Power Supply. It is about 3 years 5 months old.

Previous System:

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X
  • Motherboard: MSI MPG X570 GAMING EDGE WIFI 2nd/3rd Gen AMD AM4 Socket Main Board
  • RAM: Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4-3200 MHz
  • GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Super OC 6GB GDDR6
  • Storage: Samsung 970 EVO Plus 250GB NVMe M.2 SSD

New System:

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X
  • Motherboard: Gigabyte Aorus B550M Elite
  • RAM: Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4-3200 MHz
  • GPU: Gunnir Intel Arc A770 16GB
  • Storage: Samsung 970 EVO Plus 250GB NVMe M.2 SSD

System Behavior:

With a borrowed lower-end GPU, possibly a Gigabyte GeForce GT 710 Graphic Card, the new system boots and displays without any issues. However, when I switch to the Intel Arc A770, the system starts (fans spin, lights come on), but there's no display output.

Additional Information:

The Intel Arc A770 has been tested in another system with a Ryzen 5 5600G CPU and works perfectly, so the GPU itself is not faulty.

Any further insights or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help!

5600G is pcie 3 based, im wondering if A770 is having issues communicating with 3700x via pcie 4? See if changing pcie gen to 3 (using 710 to do this) in bios does anything. Should be an option to change it.

Not using riser cable to orientate graphics card differently by any chance? Sometimes these adapters if not pcie 4 compliant or made properly can cause issues with pcie 4 cards. Forcing pcie 3 from motherboard fixes this issue.

The A770 video port is clear, not blocked a little from case?

Thanks for the suggestions! I'll definitely give changing the PCIe gen to 3 in the BIOS a try today, I'll also double-check the video port on the motherboard to make sure it's not obstructed.

If you have any further suggestions or advice, feel free to share.

Do you have initial display output (or whatever it's called) in BIOS set to Auto? Or is it set to PCIe x16?

Sometimes, if it's on Auto, it will try onboard graphics first and then get lost somewhere in the wilderness. I've had trouble with display even with onboard graphics and a working GPU installed. Tried all ports, no display.

After you updated BIOS, did you reset CMOS? Your motherboard may have a button for this, but if not, you will have to short two pins by touching them with a screwdriver (with your PC switched OFF!)
Try reseting CMOS, and reset BIOS to defaults. That might get display back.
