PC Starts up and than shuts down.

I am having a problem with my a computer. It is a Compaq Presario 5000. OP is Windows XP Home edition. Here is whats happening. Once I turn the pc on it goes immediately goes to the safe mode screen and it says windows had some kind of problem, and gives me the option of starting it in safe mode I do this the pc begins to load up than right away there is a blue screen with some words and numbers and it just shuts down. I am guessing I need to do a system recovery, but I don't know where I can get the disk.

Hit F8 during boot up and Disable Automatic restart on system failure. This will allow you to capture the error code from what appears to be a blue screen.
