So my computer works fine and everything but maybe it might not. So I leave my computer on so some downloads finish. It was left on for at least 16 hours. After I come back and check, the keyboard was lit but did not make the monitor screen turn on same with the mouse. I unplug them both but when I plug them back in they don't light up so it shows its not sending power to those devices. This has happened to me twice. I just reboot the system and everything seems to work fine, during all the time the download had stopped. Any idea what could be causing it?

This is not an answer but to chime in that I'm experiencing something very similar. I've had a few strange instances over the last number of months including turning on computer and no mouse/keyboard (I'd believed I'd solved); computer not shutting down but instead coming back to splash screen (very rare -- not figured out) and this last one that it doesn't recognize the mouse or keyboard.

This has probably happened about a dozen times over the last six months but has just happened two times in two days. Initially, I thought it had gone to sleep and I couldn't wake it up and was searching and troubleshooting things there. Then I thought it was the monitor and not the computer but was catching on perhaps it was a mouse/keyboard...

This has probably happened about a dozen times over the last six months but has just happened two times in two days. Initially, I thought it had gone to sleep and I couldn't wake it up and was searching and troubleshooting things there. Then I thought it was the monitor and not the computer but was catching on perhaps it was a mouse/keyboard issue. Today I realize it is a mouse/keyboard issue as previously, I'd stepped away from the computer and came back to what appeared to be a non-functioning monitor. Today, I just took a short break and BOTH the keyboard and mouse suddenly weren't functioning.

I thought I'd done all the driver updates but I finally installed Driver Talent and scanned -- Only two come up and one is for Realtek audio but the other is something that I'm not sure about at all and it shows "It is not recommended to update if your PC is working correctly". That scares me. Here's the update it says I need: intel 8 series/c220 series smbus controller - 8c22 . Is this possible that it's anything to do with the problem I've described?? Or is this something that I should just let sleeping dogs lie kind of thing as I don't want to make matters worse.

BTW, hard shut down fixes things. Obviously not something I want to do but now it's two days running, I'm getting concerned this is turning into a problem that even doing that won't fix and then I'll really be up the creek without a paddle.

It's a Dell 8700 Inspiron
Windows 10.1
Logitech M705
Microsoft wireless keyboard 3300 v 2.0

I rarely post to forums not sure what else you might need.

Update or no? Any suggestions?

Thanks so much!

Following Morning: I remember trying to figure this out previously and coming up with the possibility of the USB ports. Just using windows Device Manager, all the drivers for the usb ports, keyboard, mouse are up to date BUT one thing occurred to me and that was the USB I was using was fairly ancient. I've switched over the little wireless transmitters to a 3.0 usb hub and am going to hope that does it.

If there's any thoughts or suggestions, I'd appreciate it. In the meantime, I'm going to keep my fingers crossed. Thx
