Pc stuttering with multiple tasks

Pc Used to be Fine running perfectly one night as I was shutting PC down heard a funny noise and after that my HDD would no longer read it might be coincidence but now when running tasks like playing a video game and watching a you tube video the video and game both start stuttering and freezing up and as I say it never used to happen and only recently became an issue.


Components: two 1080p monitors 244hz, 60hz,Intel core i7-7700K 4.2Ghz, Msi gtx1070 Gpu, 2tb barracuda HDD 500gb samsung evo ssd, asus strix motherboard, Corsair 650 Watt VS650 power supply, 16 gb ddr4 Ram hyperx

I have since replaced the hdd and running on ssd before installing new hdd had the same issue


I have tried cleaning graphics card installation, checking for viruses and even factory resetting pc still no luck so any help or direction would be appreciated

Have you run check disk on the hdd.

from command console as administrator

chkdsk <HDD Disk Letter>: /f /r /x

If this does not help could be your hdd has failed or is about to fail.

You can remove your hdd, (just pull out the power and sata cables to see if it make a difference.

I assume you have a backup.

If your hard disk is now faulty, the entire computer will stutter and run slow as it tries to keep reading the hard disk.
Disconnect the hard disk and all will be back to normal.

Download hard disk sentinel and see how screwed up your drive is....

Thanks for the reply, I forgot to mention i am not running with the same hdd now and have replaced the hdd but even just running on ssd only I was having this issue

Thanks for answer I did replace the drive but went through the steps anyway to see if my new drives were the issue and this is not the case they are running fine when under load

I still recommend using Hard Disk Sentinel - been running it for years, and saved me at least once as it tells you how soon your hard disk will die.
