I have an old sub that connects through db9 and I was wondering if I could use a db9 to usb cable or if I have to buy the ports and install them instead.

Solution

A USB to serial adapter will NOT work. That speaker used a cable that went between the satellite speakers and had a 3.5mm plug for the PC on it. Your only option here is to track down the missing cable, or sort out which pins are for the stereo input and manually wire it up. This most likely going to require you disassemble the speaker and some electronics knowledge yo figure out.

It is a dell a525 subwoofer
