PC Sudden Shutdown PSU Problem?

Hey!

So I have a pc that I bought used (2 years old). I've only had it for a few weeks but it has shut down on me a few times while I was gaming. The GPU hovers at mid 70s when gaming and the cpu hovers at around mid 50s so the temps seem to be fine although the PC case is hot to the touch. The powersupply seems to be very hot though when I touch it though. It also has it's fan facing down on the bottom of the case. I have carpet flooring but I have a couple books suspending the PSU upwards. I also don't hear the PSU fan spinning. Could just be me though.
Here are my specs:
CPU: I5 6500
GPU: Gigabyte R7 360 ( Yes crappy for my CPU I know D: )
MOBO: Gigabyte B150M-D3H
RAM: Samsung 2133mhz DDR4 RAM (2x 4GB Sticks)
PSU: Zalman 500W GV
SSD: 120GB Intel SSD (I think it's M.2 as it's a rectangular chip that plugs into the MOBO directly).
CASE: Zalman Neo Z1 ATX Midtower

The PSU is certainly a leading suspect. Alas, the only real test normal people can do is to swap in a known good PSU and see if that fixes the problem. The first thing you should do is to confirm that the PSU fan is actually operating. BTW, if there is no grille for the PSU fan to suck air from the bottom of the case, you need to reinstall it properly, with the fan facing into the case.

Thanks for the tips bud! I don't know whether I should be happy or sad that I've found out that the PSU is the problem... I've checked and the fan isn't spinning up. I've heard that it should spin for a few seconds at startup but it didn't for me. I've also tested in game for a 5 minutes (demanding game for my PC) and saw no sign of the PSU spinning up.

Should I stress test my PC for longer and pray that the fan spins up? Also, if it doesn't is there a way I could replace the fans without opening up the PSU, or at least open the PSU up safely? Cheers man. Appreciate the help.

EDIT: There is a grill to suck air up with, I've given around an inch of air space between the carpet and the grill which faces the bottom sadly. But the fan doesn't spin
:/

EDIT 2: I'm so sorry! I'm forgetful haha, but the PC hasn't seemed to shut down so far once I've given it even more air space for the grill. (Fan still doesn't spin though).
