Hello i first posted this on the Overclocking forum, i was wondering if someone here might have some insight on wether or not the issue is PSU related.

If this "re-posting" of the thread goes against any rules of the forum, please take it down.

Hello, maybe you guys can help me out. this is my system:

gigabyte ga990fxa-ud5 r5
FX8320e OC @ 4.4 Ghz
Vcore +0.125
LLC set to Very High

2 x 8GB DDR3 RAM
PSU: Corsair CX600M (refurbrished)
Water Cooler AIO: DeepCool Captain 240 EX
Zotac AMP! Edition GTX 1060
400GB SATA SSD
2TB HDD
RGB light strips NZXT Hue+, i like shiny things 😛
Case: NZXT H440

I put together this PC about 6 months ago. Without any issues, the only thing odd i could say is that since day one when i turn on my pc it turns on (all fans and leds turn on), then 1 second later, turns off, and then 3 or 4 seconds later turns on again and finally boots. I always found that to be odd, but since it didn't cause me any other issues i didn't gave much thought no it.

I overclocked my CPU about 2 months ago, It's my first overclock and i really enjoyed the process... I think i have a stable overclock, i stress tested it with prime95 over 1 hour and everything held up nicely, temps on the 35°C at iddle and 65°C after one hour testing. Also I have done some 1080p video encoding without issues and i am very happy with the performance,

Everything was ok. Until about 15 days ago... My pc started turning off and on suddenly. At first it only happened once every other day, but now it seems to happen every hour or so...

I am suspecting of my PSU, since i've read the Corsair CX series doesnt't have a very good reputation...

Is there a way to know if the problem is caused by the PSU?? I wouldn't like to buy a new PSU, install it and find out the problem is still there...

Brave... or maybe you are too poilite to say dumb... lol that's ok, i think so too... at the time i thought "well... if it is refurbished, it means this particular unit has failed in what ever was going to fail, has been replaced and now it has been tested" lol i know, i am fairly new to pc building... So i chose the components of my first pc poorly (hence the amd fx cpu). I plan on upgrading to either rysen or kaby lake later this year... So i am thinking i might as well start by buying a quality psu now. Thank you for your reply!

Thank you, i just bought a 650w EVGA SuperNova P2, (I believe this PSU is Tier 1) on Amazon.. it should arrive next week. I haven't had any sudden restarts since i removed the overclock (about 16hrs ago). I will try my overclock again when the new PSU is installed. Let's see how it goes.

UPDATE:

I got the new PSU and the issue persisted with the cpu overclocked at 4.4 Ghz so downstepped the OC to 4.3 Ghz and the issue stopped.

Still i am happy i bought a quality PSU becouse before with any issue my pc had i always suspected the refurbished CX600M was the reason. Now with the EVGA 650 P2, i know i have a tier 1 PSU so i don't worry about that anymore.

I am planing on upgrading to ryzen later this year, So the new PSU is a good starting block for that upcoming upgrade.
