My question is this. I was currently shopping for a new monitor, which I'm probably going to get a 1440p 144hz Asus GSync Monitor.
But in the meanwhile, while I was reading I stumbled onto some articles and blogs about different monitors and overclocking and what not.
Currently I have my PC which is running 2x 780Ti Classifieds in SLI going out by HDMI to my 40 Inch Vizio 1080p 120hz HDTV, model #E420i-A0-4
When I was came across this article:

I decided to give it a try, everywhere I look on the Vizio website as well as, all of the advertisements for this TV, says it runs at 120hz. When I go to pick my resolution the highest I can select is 1080p at @60hz.
I did however do what they explained and created a custom resolution with the Nvidia control panel and successfully tested it at both 1080p @75hz, and 1080p @120hz. It legitimately ran both, and it looked great. I didn't run them long however as I am not informed enough to be able to monitor and make sure that I am within safe parameters not to damage the hardware.
Can anyone tell me if this is safe? Not just safe but an acceptable setting for this HDTV? If you read anything about this TV, even on the Vizio site it states it's max refresh is @120hz. Though I do know that 120hz HDTV and 120hz PC Monitor handle things in different ways. If anyone has any real educated information to share, I would be greatly appreciative, not just opinions or guessing, but real facts as to why or why not this is an acceptable setting to run. Thank you for your time guys!
