PC to TV (mini displayport -> HDMI): flickering or no signal

Hi!

I have a Thinkpad T440s which I am trying to connect to a Samsung UE49KU6455 TV. Since my computer does not have an HDMI output, I am using a mini displayport -> HDMI adapter + an HDMI cable.

Unfortunately, it is not working... I do not get any signal in 99% of the tries, but sometimes it gives a very bad flickering signal (of what should be shown).

I have tried to connect another computer (Thinkpad T470s) which only have HDMI output, therefore without the adapter. Then it worked at first try. Which excludes the HDMI cable to be broken.

What do you think can be the problem? The adapter, my computers software settings or hardware?

Do you have any suggestions how to proceed with the troubleshooting?

Can you test the adaptor on a different pc?

sounds like the adapter. I have used some pretty cheap DP to HDMI adapters without issue though.

I have no other device that use mini displayPort, so I need to buy a new one to test it. But before that, I would like to know if there are any settings that could be helpful to take a look at? I have only looked at Intel's graphics settings for the HD4400 GPU. Are there more?
