After I disconnected all of the cables from the mobo to remove the backplate, the PC is stuck in an endless cycle of turning on and off.

It would do this on plug in. It cant be the PSU right? Since it was clearly working the day before. It cant be the RAM either since its brand new (1x 16gb stick). So whats causing the problem?

Did the i5 8400 come with the Alienware PC? Or is that your own upgrade. From my research, it seems that the motherboard is LGA 1151, but Kaby Lake. This could be your issue because even though i5 8400 is also LGA 1151, it is only compatible with Coffee Lake.

Generally, from my experience, this symptom is due to a broken pin on the CPU or motherboard, very high temperatures or incorrect seating. If there is an incompatibility of parts it should turn on then off. I would make sure your parts are all compatible and have a go over once again.
CPU: I5-8400
GPU: GTX 1070 8G AERO
PSU: 850W (Alienware)
MOBO: Alienware

I didnt actually remove the backplate since it was unremovable, I just wanted to install a water cooler. It was the main reason I did all this in the first place.

Which motherboard? Did you swap out parts recently?

Which RAM?

8GB of ram, tried 4gb sticks same issue.
I did remove the motherboard then reattach it on.

Not how much, which? Are they DDR4 RAM?

Which motherboard? Model? Did you make sure standoff's are properly connected?

It is DDR4 RAM.
The motherboard came with my prebuilt Alienware, its an IPKBL-SC.
The standoffs are properly connected, I even reseated the motherboard to be sure.
I did aswell get a brandnew PSU but that wasnt the issue as I was given the same results.
