Hello there! I know there are 500 othere threads kind of like this, but I believe my problem is different.

As the title suggests, when I turn my pc on, it goes on for half a second, and then turns off, then repeats untill I turn off the power supply.

Things I have tried:
Breadboarding
One stick of ram
Paperclip trink on power supply (power supply works)
Reseating cpu heatsink
Reseating cpu
Reseating everyting else XD

I believe that my cpu is not getting power, as when i turn my PC on, the cpu does not heat up at all. I have reseated the cpu and its heatsink (I have the corsair h50 water cooler) to no avail. The pins all look good. I have check all the cables several times and unplugges and replugged them too. When the cou power is unplugged, the same exact thing happens, which makes me believe either the connector on the motherboard or the cpu connector on the psu is bad.

Thanks for your help in advance,
Josh Nye

This is usually related to RAM that fails. Take out the RAM dimms and blow out the sockets to get rid of dust. If this doesn't solve your problem it might be a problem with the graphics card, take out the graphics card and see if it boots up. However RAM is usually the cause of this.
It's most likely not a CPU problem. Also check the SATA cables of your hard drives just in case.

I have taken the RAM out and blown on the sockets many times, and I am currently trying to boot without a video card in. I am pretty sure my problem is either in the motherboard or cpu, but wanted to post here because I didn't want to make any rash decisions.
Thanks for the response!

Psu: corsair CX750M
Gpu(not plugged in atm): 2x msi geforce gtx 760 sli
Cpu: intel i5 4590
Thanks for the help so far, hoping this can be solved sooner than later 😛

Those PSU's are high quality and almost lasts forever so I can't imagine it being the PSU, although it might have gotten damage from a high power surge or the connector cables are damaged. But my guess is it's the CPU. The pins might have gotten damage when the stock cooler was removed.
My advice is to borrow a PSU somewhere and check if it boots up first as this is free and easy
If not it's probably the CPU that got damaged.

I put that water cooler on almost a year ago, so i dont know why it would decide to fail now. Think there is any chance it is the motherboard? I am fairly certain it is not the psu as it passed the paperclip test.

If there's actually something showing up on your monitor before the pc shuts down the Motherboard is probably fine. But if it turns off too fast for anything to show up, the Motherboard might be fried.

It turns off real fast, it is on for under one second

But if it is the motherboard, why would only the cpu and the cpu fan be affected? Do you think it could possibly be the cpu power cord on my psu gone bad?

After multiple attempts of getting the computer to fix itself, i've noticed that the cpu fan does spin... well... I would'nt call it spinning. I would more call it twitching.

Seeing as the fan actually starts spinning or almost at least tells us that the Motherboard is fine and the CPU is fine too, which leaves only the Power supply. It's one of 3 things. The PSU got damaged for some reason. Or the cord connecting the CPU is damaged. Or the SATA cables connecting your hard drive is damaged. When your hard drive isn't connected this can also happen.

After my first build I had the same problem, it was one of the single cables from the case buttons which was on a wrong connector (reset one I think)... if you just put the entire pc back together... i'd suggest checking all the wires again.

The psu is fine, as it passes the paperclip test. The cpu cord from the power supply is outputting 12v DC, which means the cord is fine, so that leaves only the sata cable. How do I go about fixing that? I dont have any sata cables plugged in to the motherboard right now.

The computer is outside of the case right now and I am turning it on using the mobo, so I don't think that is the problem unless it is a lingering problem. Thanks for the help though Mister-E, hoping I don't have any bad components.

I should add that this is not a new build, almost three years old. The problem did occur when i was putting it all in a new case though, and I know it is not the case as when i take it out of the case it still does the same thing.

The only thing that worries me that it might be the cpu is the fact that it doesnt warm up at all for that one second it is on. That means either the motherboard isnt supplying it with power or that the cou is dead. I do have a friend with a same socket motherboard as me, I could see if he could come over if you think that it is a good idea?

My friend came over and brought his cpu and power supply, and the same exact thing happened when we plugged those in. We did notice some thermal paste and some barely bent pins in the cpu socket when replacing the cpu. We are thinking that that may be the cause of it. Is there anything we can do, or should I just RMA the board?
