So i opened my pc to clean it. Didn't have any compressed air so i used a hair dryer (on cold) because i read it is safe. I also took the cpu cooler out cleaned it and put it back in without replacing the thermal paste though. So when i connected all the cords back and pressed the button the pc would turn on but there was not the usual beep sound or any beep at all and there was no display. Can you please help me. I just got a new gtx 960 and can't use it because of this. (I cry literally)!

its possible but you should get at least a beep before it turns off. is the 24 pin power connector plugged in to the motherboard? are HDD's plugged in to PSU and mboard? also the 4 pin power cable for the CPU in the motherboard?

but as I said before you shouldnt even try to turn it on until youve...

Never reseat a CPU cooler if you are not replacing the thermal paste, you could overheat your CPU.

First make sure all the power connectors are plugged in properly.
Test the PC without the 960, use the motherboard video out, if it works it might be a PCI-e or GPU problem.
Try using another GPU if you can, also try your 960 in a different PCI-e slot if you have more than one. If the PC works with another GPU your GPU is defective, if the 960 works on a different PCI-e slot it is a motherboard problem.

you NEED to replace the thermal paste every time you remove the heatsink. clean all of the previous off with rubbing alcohol, and apply a small amount of fresh.

Without the thermal paste the CPU is likely overheating at startup hence why your PC isn't working. Let us know if it works after applying thermal paste.

First of all. I didn't use the GPU i just got it it's still in it's box (sigh). So i tried with and without my older gpu. I disconnected everything from the motherboard except the cpu and it's fan and i got no beep. I tried it with the full set pc running fans running but no beep and display. I don't think it's the GPU.

So is it possible that i turn the pc on and the cpu stops working because of that hence the no beep or the display?

but as I said before you shouldnt even try to turn it on until youve got some fresh paste on there, your CPU is going to overheat and shut it down anyway.

Yeah. Every connector is in it's place, the 24 pin, the 4 pin, the HDD is in the right SATA port so is the DVD drive so are the case's cables. I don't know if it's important but the case led that is for power is not turning on as it should.

ok try turning off the power switch at the back, hold down the front power button for 5 seconds, turn on the back switch, and see if it powers up then.

Already did that and nothing changed. Might it be a motherboard issue? Really i don't know what went wrong. The pc worked fine, i shut it down take it out clean it with the hair dryer plug it back in and now i got this.
