pc turns on then off after 30 seconds and repeats

Alright so I have an msi z87-g45 motherboard and I went on their website and installed live update 5. I downloaded all the updates I needed and started installing them I got to the program started uninstalling old drivers and installing the new ones for a couple minutes. Then I went away for a minute or 2 (literally) and my computer had shut down and was restarting i suppose however now it just shuts off every 30 seconds to about a minute. When it restarts I don't see the msi bios coming up nothing comes up on my monitor the monitor just pretends like its not connected to anything even though it is. HELP

no this is a computer i built about a month ago and all was running fine until I used the live update software. to install new motherboard drivers

First thing I would do is (assuming you even get this far without a crash) is control panel -> system and security -> system -> advanced system settings -> startup and recovery -> uncheck automatically restart and make sure write an even to the system log is on.

This way you can see the error code and not just have the machine restart everytime.

If this doesn't work you'll have to try a roll back using system recovery when you press F8 at startup. If it is the MSI software booting into safemode and removing it could also be a simple fix. But you won't know unless you look at the error code.

Ok so right now I unplugged all llugs from the motherboard and took out the cmos battery and ill wait 30 mins and see if that works. If it doenst which I'm betting on... then ill try your solution. However my computer just turns everything on theirs no way I could get to control panel i can't even get anything to show up anything on my screen.

If it's Windows Vista or later, it will automatically reset itself to the new hardware. A reboot is needed after it makes its own changes but a new install/repair has not been necessary since Windows XP. I went from an MSI K9A2 Platinum (AM2+ 790FX) board that died, to an ECS 780GM-A (AM2+ 780G) to my current Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 with three different processors (Phenom II X4 940, Phenom II X4 965, FX-8350) and I still have the same install of Windows 7 x64 running with no problems despite changing CPUs, AM2+ to AM3 platforms and DDR2 to DDR3 RAM. It was a very simple procedure so that won't be his problem.

To the OP, I would be interested to know about your power supply. What you're describing is quite often a power supply issue. How old is it, how many watts and what video card(s) are you running?

this is a brand new PC POWER mk11 silencer 950w 80+ silver psu. I'm almost absolutely sure that its the motherboard i think all that happened was that i flashed the bios incorrectly so im going to have to return it and just play dumb and see if they will give me a new one it. The reason I'm sure its the motherboard is this is the first bad thing this build has ever done and it happened literally in the process of using msi live update 5. Plus I've read tons of threads all having this problem when using live update 5 the way i did. I also went to the computer repair store and the people there said the exact same thing... just call msi have them trouble shoot then ask if i can send it back to them so they can check to see and give me a new one or reset the old one.
