Question PC won't turn on and there are no debug lights lit on the motherboard ?

I was using my PC, and it automatically restarted all of a sudden. I continued using it after it restarted, however, it powered off after around 3min and I can't turn it on anymore. Any idea how to figure out what is the issue?

I am currently using the ROG B550F Gaming Motherboard. With the power supply turned on, the top left ROG logo lights up, but no debug lights turn on. Does this mean that the issue is with my motherboard? Or what can I do to determine which component failed?

Some things I have tried:
- Reseating the RAM
- Trying to boot without a GPU
- Clearing the CMOS by removing the battery and putting it back in

Any advice is appreciated, thanks!

Hi sorry to hear your PC shut down suddenly. Please list your complete system hardware. Here are some things that have worked for me with old and new PC's. Replace the CMOS battery with a new one and Unplug your PSU and hold the power button for about 15 seconds to discharge the motherboard. Unplug and reseat all power connections , reseat the GPU and its power cables and SSD,HDD cables and M.2 drives. Make sure all power connectors are secure.

Plug in the PSU and turn on the PSU Switch. Wait for a few seconds and press the PC power button and see if the motherboard will POST. It may take a few minutes to boot as the board may retrain the RAM and will turn on and off a few times before it will boot into the BIOS. A basic POST test is to boot the motherboard into the BIOS with 1 stick of RAM in slot A1 and have your GPU installed and of course your HDMI cable for video to your monitor or TV. These steps have helped me to get PC's that suddenly shut down to boot again.

No worries, there are people here who can help you solve the issues at hand. It also maybe heat related or overclocking issues that have caused a sudden shutdown. I hope you have a successful result after the problem is resolved. All the Best from an old school Gamer and PC Builder. Cheers.

Hi you may need to repaste your CPU. Do this only if you are comfortable with this procedure or have done it many times before. This is Very IMPORTANT. Thermal paste should be reapplied about every 4 yrs. Especially if you do alot of gaming or intensive productivity work with your PC. If you decide to repaste the CPU remove your cooler and carefully clean the CPU and Cooler surfaces with isopropyl alcohol. You may want to reseat the CPU after cleaning. Then apply the paste in a manner that will cover the CPU when the cooler is installed. There are many ways to apply the thermal paste. Use the method that works for you and will provide efficient cooling capability with your hardware. Please reply if you want to do this or if you have discovered other apparent issues. Please provide details. thank you.

Other people will reply with good sound advice. IF this is the issue and the motherboard successfully boots into Windows after you repaste the CPU. You will want to run a hardware monitoring program to see in real time your system temperatures at idle and during gaming or benchmarking tests. Two of my favorite programs are Cinebench 23 and HWINFO. Also you may want to consider using the UNIGINE BenchMark programs which work very well and gives you a current system performance score. You have a very good PC that should handle most games and productivity applications. Please advise. Thank you. Have a good night.

Does anything light up (mouse, keybd, etc) or make noise (hdd or fan spinning up) ? if so unplug everything except the gpu power, 24 pin and cpu connectors and see if it powers up then. I would use a low powered gpu to test with if you have one in case the GPU is the one causing the PSU not to power on.

Everything depends on the power supplied. I would determine that you have correct power before spending a lot of time or money. Use a voltmeter to check the supply voltages. Do you know where to measure and what to expect?
