Hi all,

I have an old PC resting on shelve sometimes which I shall use it for testing installing cPanel.

Configuration:
CPU - AMD 8-core
Mobo - ASUS M5A97 R2.0
HD - 1TB SSD
RAM - 2x4G 8G

Yesterday, I took it down, upgrading OS Ubuntu 18.04 to 20.04 and tested it without problem for 2~3 hours including reboot. Today I couldn't start it, pressing the start-button on PC without response, the red light on PC case not started. Also I have tried using a screw-driver to shorten its connectors. The green LED is on the motherboard. Also there is USB power output. I tested it with an USB light.

It is very strange to me. Please advise where shall I start to check first. Would it be the power supply problem? Or CPU problem? I have no spare CPU to check.

Please advise. Thanks

When people mention that, the first thing that comes to mind is a 125W TDP processor. Which processor do you have from that era? You should follow up with a FX-8XXX where the X's after 8(or 9) are a number.

You also forgot to mention the make and model of your PSU and it's age.

Hello,

Thanks for your reply.

This is an old PC built more than 10 years ago. CPU - AMD 8-core is from my recollection

I can't provide the full detail of hardware because I can't start the PC on Terminal running;
lscpu, lshw, hwinfo etc.

Regarding PSU, it is Corsair CX500 shown on the photo

Have you tried with only one ram stick, if no post, try other stick.
I have tried them one by one without result.

Do you have a diffrent working psu you can test your pc with?
No spare PSU available, I have to remove a PSU from a working PC.

I'm prepared building a new AMD Ryzen 7 PRO 4750G PC and going to purchase a Corsair 550W CX550M PSU. I'll use it for testing this old PC.

There is no urgency. I'll use this old PC testing installing cPanel. I'll come back later. Thanks

Hi all,

There is no problem on my old PC.

I have dismantled all components, thoroughly cleaned them with brush and vacuum cleaner and reassembled them

Now my old PC can be started and booted. It is still working strong.
